"Because I just got the motor done and I have purchased everything- just havn't installed it yet- which isn't a problem
We just put everything back together stock so diagnosing problems would be easy if there were any upon start up. (I included that in my tech sheet)
another thing
do you want specific things like brand like "wiesco pistons, scat crank" or will "383" be enough for the bottom end

I'm going to get some pics of the car at the thunder shootout and send it in. Hopefully the car will be in the 10s NA...and by the time of the shootout should have my nitrous up and running. I'm worried about the sound rule. Even with my 4" mufflex system with the spintech and with a 4" bullet in the intermediate pipe. Under throttle the thing is LOUD. Guess if I get invited I would have to put a meter on it to make sure it would pass before traveling 18 hours.
Hmmmm...wonder if any of those small cube ls1s will be in the 10s/9s...heheheheh.

I'd be very interested in dragging the bucket from Illinois for an "LT1 FI vs. LS1 FI" class. Of course, I'd have to face off against Rich's car, which would probably mean no better than a 2nd for me.
I'll check back with this around the first of the year.

dB level
Hey guys, as a member of FormulaS.A.E. www.sae.org, I've had to adhere to a 92dB limit w/ our 400cc supercharged V4 and a N/A 600cc motor running a VERY short VERY free-flowing exhaust. 92-96dB is that area where if you're w/in 20 feet you start to cover your ears. It's acutually much more complicate than that though because high pitche noises "seem" louder than the more bassy ones. Here's a few tips for anyone worried about passing the level though.
-Turn the rear-exiting pipes out-ward, inward, and/or downward. Believe it or not some of the formula teams use dual exhaust pointed towards each other and a precise distance to cancel some of the exiting sound. This is a little extreme. Usually using turndowns lowers the dB level behind the car by 2-4dB
-Active Sound Cancelattion--Bose technology for those of you w/ deep pockets
-a large bullet muffler where your cat would be
-chop your tips off for the shootout and have an "exhaust trap" installed. W/ this setup you can add/delete plates to tune your noise level
-fiberlglass wrap the headers/y-pipe--absorbs some sound
****WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS***
-Cut holes into the firewall, route the exhaust through the interior and 'port the rear bumper' to adhere to the rear exit requirement!!!!!(make sure to install and oxygen system for yourself or practice holding breath for 11 seconds at a time)
-Tell the WIFE you HAVE to install that turbo so that it quiets the car down
Johnny, for future reference the Florida possie would love for you to head south sometime for your track tests. Even so, I'll be sending you info on 3 cars a 9sec (est.), 12.000sec, and a 12.3sec car (All LT1s)

i'll be sending my info out soon, when is the deadline?? and a possible race date... i guess i have to be picked first!!!!! Anyway i am lookin to get a little faster. maybe high 10's on motor... anyway, how will we be notified if we are picked???? thanks in advance...
Come on guys, give Johnny a break on the noise level thing..it's not his rule and he doesn't want the track to get in trouble with the locals. The ones you should be writting to are the elected officals in the county the track is in. I too fell victim to the noise requirement, due to my own fault..so really make sure you can pass the test. Some of the things mentioned in a couple posts above seem to work and for those with cutouts you can make up plates like the borla has to tune it down some. You all will be on the same playing field, so if you would have been the fastest running an open exhaust, you most likely still will be with it meeting the noise requirement. If you are selected, altering your exhaust IMO is a small price to pay to get in the magazine, I just wish I had listened to Johnny cause the money I spent to get sent home would have bought me some nice go fast goodies. Good luck to all in getting in.

. Seriously, my car is a street car and really is at it's best from a roll. The setup will be more drag friendly next year though and I will be using a larger tire and have another 150-200hp though
. Also, i am not the world's best driver, for sure. So who knows? It would be a lot of fun to find out.Rich Krause

I've gotten probably 8 - 10 letters so far, mostly LT1s. If this keeps up, I look for an LT1 sweep. Did anybody link this yet over at LS1.com or LS1tech.com?

This may have already been covered, but what is the perferred amount of pics to be sent. I am going to send my info in because I don't know of too many mid to low 11 sec. Firehawks cutting 1.55 - 60' on a completely stock suspension driving around. I rack up 500 miles per week on my Bird and it still gets flogged at the track on wed nights. I also plan on (if I get invited), driving to New Jersey in the Firehawk, flogging the hell out of it, and driving back to home in it. Not to bad a plan for a 1821.38 mile road trip.
A nice, unobstructed exterior shot taken from the side or about the 10 o'clock position would be our primary concern. If you sent along an engine shot and an interior shot, that would be great too. We're basically trying to get a feel for what the cars look like inside and out.

I would Love to get in on this..........BUT the engine isnt happy and is coming out. Not sure if i will be ready by spring,or even early summer.
In ANY case, this is a GREAT oppertunity to meet new people, and get some publicity for the cars.
Johnny,Jim........if you guys need any Tech help,i will be glad to volunteer my service's to help out in ANY way possible.
