Thanks! I will send those shots to ya!

Would the LT1 have to be in a 4thgen?

What about 3rd gens?

Are we not the flavor of the month anymore?

We are cogniscant of the fact that people may need enough notice to take time off from work to make this event and we will make every effort to give participants plenty of notice. I wouldn't expect any announcements until after the first of the year at the earliest though.

Third gens with LT1s and LS1s are welcome to send in pictures and a tech sheet, but the scope of this shootout is limited to those two engines, just as the theme of the last shootout was limited to bolt-on LT1s. If the next shootout does well, its likely we'll continue with more of them. As a TBI guy, I would much rather see a TBI vs. TPI shootout with a dozen cars than one or two third gens thrown into the mix with a bunch of LS1s and LT1s.

Thanks for the reply. 3rd gens can be modded also. A 3 way would be better than a 2 way.

Boy do I have a 'case' for you.
May not have it together in time though but if I do...

New England Dragway has posted their schedule for 2003. Knowing the likely dates for this would be appreciated as soon as possible. It isn't just me but a sponsor who may want to make the trip to new Jersey...

E-Town LT1/LS1 Shootout

The event sounds cool, but I think I'm gonna sit it out, mainly due to inability to send you the info you need unless I'm putting it in snail mail. I would love to attend (if you have another) bolt-on LT1 event, and I really wish I would have known of your previous invite, because I could have been extremely competitive with the times that are listed in the latest issue of GMHTP, and that is with only the spare removed for weight reduction with stock salad shooters. I'm not sore about it, but I would think there are quite a few other contenders running quicker w/bolt-on only additions that would have added to the story even more.

Since it'll be a private, invite only, I suppose the only way those not invited to see what actually goes down will be in the magazine?

SLP day barely gets coverage. Possibly one of the biggest fbody events for late models all year.

There are a ton of late models that run at the track regularly. This event could either be huge or tiny, depending on how it is campaigned. There is no chance of securing Etown for the day or 1/2 day for this to be an open event? I think it would make the attendance very interesting, as well as allow those either unable to be competitive or non-racers to see just what the outcome of it will be. Just my $.02.

Still love the mag, my favorite, of course!

You're joking, right? If you're boycotting the USPS, you can always use FedEx or UPS.

If we keep doing shootouts, there are alot of engines and vehicles to cover before we start doing repeats. If there were other bolt-on LT1 cars out there that should have been in the story, we didn't hear from them or they couldn't make it. It's not like we sent out secret invitations. We organized that shootout the same way we're doing this one.

Each participant is allowed to bring one crew member. The entire facility will be empty with the exception of a few track workers and three or four people from the magazine. Adding more people to the mix only creates problems we don't have the time or manpower to handle.

I'll be the first to tell you we'd love to have the room to cover each of SLP's six customer appreciation days, but we don't. Each story we do on events means one less tech story or one less feature. Hunkins tries to keep the mix at a level that pleases the most readers, but I'll let him know you'd like more extensive coverage of SLP day.

Don't think of it as an "event," think of it as a "shootout," similar to the OK Corral, only the Clantons and Earps are LS1s and LT1s. They didn't invite every gun owner in Tombstone.

The track will be reserved for the entire day, as well as the following day in case it rains. There are plenty of other F-Body specific events around the country, why should we add one more to the mix, especially when we consider the attendance we had at our last GMHTP Nationals?

We appreciate your support and promise to do everything we can to make each issue better than the previous one.
