My guess?

Week one - Ohh my gawd, they did it! yipee

Week two - F5 snobbery and F5 envy

Week three - satisfaction, but if I could just change one thing

Week four - Damn they arent supposed to have these kinds of problems with a brand new car

Week five - I've just done my first mods, this car is quick as hell from the factory and even quicker when I did this.

Week six - Hey guys what do you think about that chrome tape I just put on my coil packs and throttlebody! Looks good doesn't it!

Week seven - GM is stupid as hell for making that widget like that, I broke two making back to back passes, but the fix is in the mail, just wish it didn't cost me XXXX.XX

Week eight - Well I really like the new car, but it just doesnt bring a grin to my face like my old trusty X-gen, so I'm gonna sell it and by a XXXXXXXXXXX.

Week nine - Man I need to do something about the looks of my car, everybody has one now

Week ten - holy crapcino, did you read that, I should have waited to buy my F5 until they came out with the super F5, I wonder if I can get a good deal on a trade in or sell so I can get the super F5.

Week eleven - screw you guys, the F5 is just fine the way it is, if you want that just go buy a XXXXX
I think that your prediction is a VERY tame one . Think more along the lines of the gates of hell being opened up, and then you might be getting close.

This car will end up at least as heavy as the Mustang GT. Which would be heavier than a 4th gen.
Can you post your resume? I need to know if I should take your word for this over Scott Settlemire's.

It's nice to have enthusiasm about a WS6, but you are DEAD WRONG!! GTO is a high 4 second car to 60. WS6s run 5 flat on a good day. To top it off, a live axle is better at transmitting power than IRS, which makes it even more dramatic.
I wouldn't discount what he said so quickly - at least not in terms of absolute acceleration. The quickest report of seen of a bone stock 05 GTO is 12.98 @ 108 mph. There are several documented cases of LS1 F-bodies running 12.9s, and even 12.8s. To be fair, the 05 GTO is still quite new, and there are far fewer out there, but still...I think it is telling. And in addition to the IRS, the TM sure seems to cut it off at the knees. Regardless of the reason though, I believe the poster had a valid point.

Add turbo or blower.

Corvette. Yeah, I want one bad but will probably be well into middle age until I can afford one.
Buy a used one.

Miata, S2000. See Solstice and Sky.
Add turbo or blower (or V8 conversion http://www.v8miata.com/Monster_V8_Kit.asp)

Boxster. See Corvette, Solstice and Sky.

Do you even know what these cars are really meant to do? Those low profile tires and six speed trans aren't intended for 1/4 mile work. The twin piston brakes and front sway bar have no purpose in acceleration contests.

Are you aware of the original Z/28's purpose in life?

Sorry. I'm crabby tonight.
Camaro's purpose:
  • Distinctively modern aerodynamic styling for a clean functional appearance
  • Small, highly maneuverable size with packaging for four passengers
  • A very broad range of available performance capability
  • Quick, sharply defined roadability with a firm, yet comfortable ride
  • "Cockpit-type" interiors for close driver identification
  • An evolutionary, rather than revolutionary, basic design approach to maintain maximum value to the customer
  • Wide Selection of mechanical and appearance equipment to allow customer tailoring to his needs and desires'

The original purpose of the Z28 has homologation for Trans Am racing. These cars were defined as four passenger "sedans" with a wheelbase of 116". http://www.amx-perience.com/TransAmRacing1968.htm

Good grief. Things like this leave no doubt as to why Scott would want to turn himself into the Human Tiki Torch when he visits this site.

Pass the matches Red.

QFE.

I'm just glad Red still sees fit to visit the site.

Anyone have any thoughts on what the body panels will be made of? Will it go back to steel or continue with mostly plastic?

While the GXP and Redline versions look to be extremely tempting, a forced four cylinder would not satisfy my torque needs. Perhaps a blown six cylinder but not a four.

Not going to happen. I buy new cars (and trucks). Haven't bought used in at least 15 years.

New car warranty? (see #2) Besides, those things eat ring and pinions in ways that even we cannot imagine.

Exactly. Where does heavyweight, straightline muscle car fit in there?

It doesn't.

guionM I have a lot of respect for your opinion I have been on this board for a number of years but I am just making a statement from my experience. Don't get me wrong the GTO is an outstanding performing car the seats are sooo comfortable. I used it as an example of a car that if made lighter in 2005 would be faster than a car built in 2002. I am not talking more refined. Thanks Bob

Maybe it's about time.

Niether does it say flyweight, ultimate handling, road racing machine.

Remember, we want the Camaro around for a LOONNNNGGGG time. It must have broad, affordable appeal and be profitable for GM. This means we have to have some compromises.

Those compromises can be overcome with aftermarket parts: shocks, springs, sway bars, tires, carbon fiber body panels, remove rear seat, spare tire, etc. If it has enough in common with Sigma, you could even transfer its aluminum suspension components over.
