Reality check on the 5th gen reality check.....
Reality check on the 5th gen reality check.....
I only have afew minutes to get some thoughts down on this....
- Most engineering/design parameters are already "locked in" at this point.
- It will be larger and heavier than I had hoped and had petitioned for.
- You'd better have an affection for 1st gens.
- Expect the best interior, most power, best structural rigidity in Camaro history.
- January will provide a tease only. As you can imagine, you must "freeze" an ongoing design exercise at some point, if you are going to present a show ready exhibit by January.
- Just like the original Solstice concept, Buick Velite, and Opel Insignia....expect what's under the skin to bear no relevance to the real car.

Welll. that doesn't exactly sound disasterous.
I'm sure the engineers at GM would give us a package that is more desirable than the Mustang IF the rumours are correct - that it will be superior in every aspect - better handling, more power, 1st gen looks, etc... I can't complain if those traits are foremost in the engineers' minds.

Re: Reality check on the 5th gen reality check.....
At this point I dont care anymore I just wanna see the darn thing.........also the Stang dicktated the market so Chevy has to follow to have success but anyways I think a retro 5th gen looks a heck of alot better than a 05 retro mustang. If the earlier renderings by crispey and sharpshooter are any indication to what it looks like then i'm all for it. Besides I dunno why people are arguing the look of the back half of a 1st gen modernized with big meaty tires in the rear laying rubber to the ground and shaking the nuts and bolts off the Mustang.......is by far a pretty sight to picture and imagine in my head

As for having an affection for 1st gens... you all know how I feel about them... however, I hope its not too retro. I don't simply want a modern chassis under a 67-69 skin.

Re: Reality check on the 5th gen reality check.....
When we talk about weight, it's so vague....what are we talking about weighing....
1) a fully loaded Z28, auto/power options/leather etc. ??
2) 1 LE style buisness only version.. ??
3) the miriad in between????
...which one should weigh under 35xx lbs???

Re: Reality check on the 5th gen reality check.....
If it weighs more than 3600lbs with manual trans and the basic options (including powered following: drivers seat, locks, remote keyless, windows and mirrors), I'm gonna be dissapointed and out of the market. 3550 lbs would be the sweet spot for such as car in a real world where we have to accept GM can't magic the weight away and still build a solid car. But I guess all we mortals can do is wait and see

Re: Reality check on the 5th gen reality check.....
The whole larger/heavier comment got me. I'd really like to have a 3rd gen length (is it close to that Z284ever?) but that isn't what gets me the most. I wanted one that would weigh under 3550 fully loaded (I believe that's what fully loaded in the 4ths came too.) Any bigger than that and I'll be VERY worried and may not even consider it as an option to buy (or I'd have to buy a stripper 1LE.)

What was the figure he was hoping for? I can't remember.
