my neighbor had some friends over this weekend. one of them has a 67 Camaro SS. the other has a slightly lowered 05 Stang. the Stang is not that much bigger. try it for yourself one day guys. it really isn't THAT big, just looks it.

Wow peeps chill out. I cant believe there are actually people here whining "I WONT BUY THIS CAR I HAVENT SEEN YET BECAUSE PEOPLE ON AN INTERNET MESSAGE BOARD ARE SAYING IT MIGHT BE TOO HEAVY!!!!!!!"

How about we wait until we see something here in January before we start blasting it? Amid all this doom and gloom about weight two points have been brought up by Guy and Charlie that I like the most:
-Expect the most powerful, most rigid Camaro with an interior better than any F-bodies to date
-The car has to be built to handle godawful amounts of power.
And then you have Red telling us how much GM cares about weight and fuel economy.
Concerning this "phantom car", thats all the info I think I need to hear at this point!

turbo96z28......it really isn't THAT big, just looks it.
It looks tall, but as I said, I BOTTOMED OUT easily on speed bumps that my IROC would'nt blink at!...Those tall, thick doors make it look huge and heavy...optical illusion..
I'd welcome some weight, (some..)given it helps structural rigidity, so if I want to make 500-600-or more HP, I won't have one corner of the car sitting an inch and a half higher off the ground, after a couple of runs..
(Unidodies of old..)
Re: Reality check on the 5th gen reality check.....
I would rather a big looking car. When i think of a muscle car, i think of a big car with some big power. When i hear pony car, i think of the two hundred some odd cubes rinky-dink first gen mustangs.

Now, on to the real argument,
It's called taking a chance and having trust in your design team. Chrysler did it with their LX cars, and look at their success. If GM doesn't have the ***** to step up to the plate with a truly revolutionary car, instead of a five-year-old copycat(since the basic design has already been said to have been set in stone, this is a definite), then they don't deserve my business. Great, if it's a success, maybe they can do something nice with the sixth gen.
Now, since we have ~5 years to go, maybe my tastes can can change. You never know what can happen in that kind of period of time. But if the car came out right now, I would not buy it.

Don't really see what the big hang-up is with weight.
Convertibles generally weigh more than coupes. Trans Ams generally used to weigh more than Formulas or "regular" Firebirds. Cars with big blocks weigh more than those with small blocks. Guess what.....people still bought/buy them.
Is a couple hundred pound difference going to cause people not to buy a 5th Gen? Of course not. Jeez people, be frickin' happy there's even talk about a 5th Gen coming out and stop getting your panties in a wad over the possibility it may be a little heavier.
Besides, I think it's safe to say that putting an LS2 in instead of an LS1 will more than offset any POSSIBLE weight gain.
As long as a 5th Gen doesn't outweigh the 4th by 400-500 lbs who gives a cr@p??
