Reality check on the 5th gen reality check.....
Re: Reality check on the 5th gen reality check.....
Come on guys if the next Camaro is 05 Mustang size and the Mustang GT weighs about 3500 and the Camaro comes with a mostly steel IRS it will weigh more than 3500 lbs. The question is how much more. I totally feel that 3700 is reasonable.
I think that some people just want something to b*tch over. If you don't like how much it weighs before the number is even announced then you probably aren't going to buy one anyway. Remember people it can't just be an engine in a box, it has to be more!

Re: Reality check on the 5th gen reality check.....
My stock 99 T/A weighed 3660 lbs w/me. That was fat enough (and FWIW, the new Mustang is too fat for me too, as is my 04 Cobra). From my admittedly narrow perspective, more weight is bad in so many ways that it quite possibly could sway me to look elsewhere. And before I get harpooned for that statement, kindly keep in mind that it is my opinion I'm expressing and my money that I will (or will not) be using.

The reason some of us do not want a porky 5th gen is that weight IS the enemy of performance and you cannot alter the laws of physics to change that. Less weight means better acceleration, fuel economy, shorter stopping distances and better handling, all other variables remaining the same.
Plus who said it is going to be IRS for sure? I could care less personally, so long as it works at least as well as the new Mustang's set-up.

Take as an example the Saturn Aura concept. It was 90% accurate to the model that will be produced but look at the touches it has 19 in chrome rims, the interior is just incredible. The freaking steering wheel has a chrome center with LED lighting around the chrome in the steeting wheel and guages. But it is 90% of what the production car will be.

Also show a futher step out look at the G6 concept compared to the one on the streets. Both have roughly the same look. Same feeling but the concept is just over the top. It has shaved door handles, huge rims, and over the top interior. The street G6 is a great car but comparing it to the concept is just not fair.

Also it sounds like there may be a RWD Chevy sedan with the Camaro concept, it could even carry the name Bel Air. That would most likely be on the same platform as the RWD coupe concept. If the two are different, ie the coupe has SLA front suspension or a blower or something in the setup that seems over-the-top for its price point and the sedan seems more reasonable then assume that the sedan's chassis is the one we will be getting under the next Camaro.

Okay, so I'm not going to buy one. Thanks,(most of all) Retro style, weight, and size.
Next step: Find something else.
Can you say Hyundai? They've been building rep points in my book since the older Sonata. Atleast I will know for sure they aren't joining the retro bandwagon.
Too late to say- Pretty f*cking pathetic if the Camaro wants to copycat Mustang 4-5 years later. Time moves forward, people, not backward(Supposedly). The mustang is selling because it is (Get this) a F*CKING MUSTANG. It would sell like hotcakes if it was a cardboard box with a 4.5hp lawnmower engine as long as it had that little horse on the front.

Re: Reality check on the 5th gen reality check.....
If the Camaro turns out to be heavier than any previous generation I'll be looking to buy an LS1 4th gen when I finish school. There is no way I would willingly buy a performance car that is comprimised in the weight department.
