I like the Zeta/Chevelle, Torana/Camaro idea. Please make it by 2007! 40th anniversary, I have a 30th now, that would be a nice little pair to have in the garage
Re: Dec. issue PHR - "New Camaro" may be called "Chevelle"?
F*ck you GM.
That's what I'll be saying if they make it a Chevelle. I've had a '07 Camaro fund going for about 3 years now. I plan on NOT spending it on a Chevelle. I plan on spending it on a Camaro. If there is no Camaro, I'll be spending my money on something that isn't GM. Plain and simple. How hard is it to understand that we don't want a Chevelle. We want a damn Camaro. Geez. It's like substituting margarine for butter. Sure, they both have the same uses, but one is a derivative of plastic and the other is the real deal.

I'm almost in the same boat...
I'll graduate in 3 and 1/2 years with an engineering degree (hopefully...). Three and a half years = 2007-2008. I'm going to need something to get me around when I get out of here, but then my LS1 Z28 will be my dad's. So GM, I don't want a Chevelle at all. That's fine if you want to build it, but build a Camaro along side as a smaller, faster car. I don't want a Vette either. Why spend all that money to begin with when I can mod my Camaro for cheaper?

This is why I think its just a smoke screen. Have a few people "leak" out different kinds of info, and see which makes the press first. Therefor they know who to fire because they opened there mouth.
I am still holding out for a Camaro.
Also, how about the old question is what if they make a "Camaro" sized Chevy coupe, yet dont call it Chevelle or Camaro? Would you buy it?

I'm pretty sure that's the most rational thing I've ever read in your posts. (edit: not trying to say you're irrational...) While it makes some sense, there has to be part of you that wants to make absolutely sure that the Camaro comes back and if this is for real, it may not.

There is a huge part, but I really think that it is coming back. I am very optimistic. Despite the constant rumors and the like, I still belive that there will be a Camaro on Chevy lots come 07. Not Chevelle, not Panther, Camaro.
Anything else would be a waste of R&D.

They could also just name it something new, and then this wouldn't be an issue, and there still is no "Camaro".

I've been lurking awhile because of the new job, but this thread really has the anxiety level pegged!
My position: GM, build a Camaro type car and call it Camaro!
I'm not interested in a Chevy 'GTO' type coupe.

I was one of the first to do that
Re: Dec. issue PHR - "New Camaro" may be called "Chevelle"?
If GM never makes another Camaro, the only GM cars I would buy are "generi-cars" such as a Cobalt, G6, or Grand Prix. The cars I am most passionate about? Well, GM stopped making those in 2002. Generi-cars pay the bills, but they do not do much for the halo effect of your brand.
GTO fits Pontiac like a glove. GTO was always, and still is, about performance. Chevelle? Ick...the images I have of Chevelle are my ex-girlfriend's '76 Chevelle Malibu sedan, in white, with a 350 2 barrel. Sure, its a neat, big ol' car, but it screams performance about as much the Weinermobile.
And that's the point. Camaro has the performance heritage built in. I'd rather see a GTO-like coupe be called Monte Carlo, for sure. Montes at least have some relevance to the buying public today.
I still see a case for a Zeta luxury performance coupe and a Torana-type smaller performance coupe. Monte Carlo and Camaro go after different buyers. Always did, always could. A Chevelle though????????? C'mon...tell me this American Revolution is a little more creative than that.
I have not lost faith yet, but its getting very, very close. If there is no 5th gen and this thing comes out as a Chevelle, I can imagine the smell of the leaky valve seals blowing blue smoke out the back of my future '89 IROC 350 every time I start it up
At least if there is no 5th gen, I can always have my 3rd...a bittersweet purchase for sure.
I sent my letter into RP a few months back. I'd love to know who actually read it besides him, and if any of our pleading ever did, or ever will, have any effect. If you have not sent him a letter yet, then you have no right to complain here, as far as I'm concerned.

Re: Dec. issue PHR - "New Camaro" may be called "Chevelle"?
I was pretty sure that the letters were supposed to be written by a select few and the email was for the masses... However, I'll be glad to write a letter if I ever have time with all this school crap... But you know what? I'll make time.
I've said it before in this thread, it doesn't matter what car they produce, Chevy cannot have an "American Revolution" without Camaro. It just doesn't fit.

OK...didn't have time to read this entire thread...but someone brought it to my attention. (thank you, by the way...)
do you REALLY believe we're gonna talk to a magazine about this issue with all the stuff you've read on this site in the past two years?
The internet is a great thing.....except for the fact that ANYONE can post just about ANYTHING and not have to know what they're talking about........
Don't believe everything you read.......esp. if it's someone that is not from the company that builds the car or truck..........

I was (and still am) just as concerned about this as some of you folks.

Heck, they could make a wagon version as noted above, a 4 door, 2 door, it'd be a natural replacement for the Monte. Chevelle was a pretty all-over-the-place car with base models, Malibus, wagons, SS...

I guess sarcasm doesn't play well on the internet.
Re: Dec. issue PHR - "New Camaro" may be called "Chevelle"?
over in anothe thread i wrote
"well this thread was to get statements from the more prominent members such as giuonm.
i just want to hear what the guys in the know have to say. the 5th gen forum has become poluted as of lately in terms of people wanted to rack up posts and puting in their opinions on what they want or what they think they want. no offense to anybody, but if you don't know something then you shouldn't say it. you should just say im partisan to this rumor. too much clout and its getting harder by the week to to get new info out of anyone "in the know" since people jump in a tell what they think are facts. "
you really have to know who to watch (three's only a handful) to get info about the upcoming RWD coupe, and even then there is still speculation. within the last week the whole 5th gen section has become filled with everyone and their mom's opinion on what they think we will get in the future.
less opinions, more tidbit facts.
