Dec. issue PHR - "New Camaro" may be called "Chevelle"?

Just picked up the Dec. issue of Popular Hot Rodding. In the 'Mail Box' section, they report that there will be a new Camaro, but the hold up is the name. The new "Camaro" could be called Chevelle.

Just my opinion, but if it's not a new "Camaro", I'm not interetsed.

If the car is called something other than Camaro, I really really have a hard time seeing another coupe intoduced (ie Camaro)

Thsi "Chevelle" would give Chevy the followiing coupes: Cobalt, Monte Carlo, Chevelle, Corvette.

Unless Monte Carlo is dropped, I don't see how a FIFTH coupe is going to go into the same showroom, though I'd be very happy to see it happen.... more choices!!

If the "new coupe" turns out anything like the new GTO, I'd prefer they call it a Chevelle.

Maybe the best thing that could happen, is if the Chevy Zeta Coupe program was killed.

The chance to influence this and make it less of a possibility was here:

It might not be too late to get your thoughts to GM about this.

great. so theu're going to **** up another perfectly good name.

as it stands right now. its IMPOSSIBLE for GM to come up with a car deserving of the name Chevelle.

makes me sick.

Why is that?

Every Camaro has been "worthy", every Corvette has been "worthy"... even the new GTO is "worthy", even if you don't like the styling.... it brings the good to the table.

Oh right. Nothing can live up to those 4 door, straight six, powerglide classics.

Good point.

Chevelle is the proper name for this car. It's too big to be a Camaro.

A Chevy version of the GTO named "Chevelle" would be neat, IMHO. Don't know if there is a market for it, but if I were king, I'd make it available with fewer standards and more options...let folks decide if they want leather seats and all the other bells and whistles (and extra weight/price that goes along with those bells and whistles).

Off topic I guess...just got me thinking.

I agree, BUT, you can kiss the possibility of getting a Camaro in the foreseeable future goodbye.....
