2013 GT500 Base MSRP = $54,995
Re: 2013 GT500 Base MSRP = $54,995
Idk, I think Ford was skrewed from the beginning when Chevy released the Camaro. I'm guessing a good portion of the pony car market put uniqueness as a high criteria in purchasing a car. The Mustang has been around so long, it lost that flare. There's really nothing wrong with the car itself.
There is no doubt that Ford has their work cut out for them. The Camaro and Challenger look awesome. The stang, not so much.
They need to get some edges or bulges on that thing. And some hips.
Re: 2013 GT500 Base MSRP = $54,995
Umm...it has hips creases and bulges. And I would disagree with the not so much comment. I think it looks fantastic.
Re: 2013 GT500 Base MSRP = $54,995
Current car is beautiful imo. If it were my money, i'd go Mustang > camaro > challenger. Only problem is its been on the market for 8 model yrs now with just refreshes. So an all-new model is badly needed.
But overall, the mustang is a homerun imo. Great looks coupled with great performance. Camaro just happens to be slightly better looking, offers nearly similar performance, and hasn't been around as long.

I really thought that by now, MY2012/13 the excitement or pent up sales demand for the Camaro would have been satisfied. I agree that the current Mustang is a bit more user friendly. The Camaro by it's own style is a bit less ergonomically compliant.
Stangely enough that was also a issue for the 4th Gen's were when compared to the Mustangs from those days.
Either way it's a great time to be a Domestic performance enthusiast, Camaro, Challenger, Charger, Viper, Corvette and Mustang are all at the the very top of their game.

Since we were talking about the ZL1 in here...
Chevrolet apparently tested a manual and an automatic and got 11.96s @ 117 and 11.93s @ 116 respectively. This was factory stock, on the Goodyear F1 Supercar G2s.

Re: 2013 GT500 Base MSRP = $54,995
Why are the trap speeds so low, even with Chevrolet's best drivers?? That is a very good track, and the DA had to be fantastic. I keep expecting to see 119-120 traps, but it isn't happening.
On Autoblog, the posters are saying the runs were with drag radials??
If so, that could explain low traps.

"The team took two new ZL1%u2019s with them to the drag strip; both an automatic and a manual. At the track they bolted up a set of 18%u201D Mickey Thompson drag radials on Z06 wheels to the silver automatic trans car, and a stet of 20%u201D Nitto drag radials on stock ZL1 wheels to the red manual trans ZL1. Neither car disappointed with the extra grip, with both ZL1s blasting out a string of impressive high 11 second runs with no performance modifications beyond the tires."
Not to mention the 60ft times on the 11 sec timeslips were 1.69 and 1.73. It was running on a tire.

Re: 2013 GT500 Base MSRP = $54,995
They don't come with drag radials.
Or from the press release that was at the bottom of the article linked originally:
Please read first before assuming.
The times quoted in the press release - 11.93 for the auto and 11.96 for the manual - were recorded on the stock Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar G:2 tires. According to Chevrolet, the team knocked about a tenth of a second off those numbers with the Mickey Thompson drag tires.
DETROIT - The 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is officially in the "11-second" club, as engineers recently turned an 11.93-second/116-mph quarter-mile elapsed time run in a showroom-stock Camaro ZL1 automatic. A Camaro ZL1 manual ran an 11.96-second ET at 117 mph.
...
The 11.93-second ET in a stock ZL1 tested by the engineers wore the factory-issued Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar G:2 tires developed specifically for it, putting the car only a scant 0.44-second away from that additional racing safety requirement.

This probably deserves it's own thread but since we are on topic;
2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 runs quarter mile in 11.93 seconds [UPDATE]
The video doesn't show much other than they do run the ZL1's on stock rubber and DR's.
I've made a lot of passes at Milan. It's OK if it's prepped well. If not it's like ice on street tires.

Re: 2013 GT500 Base MSRP = $54,995
Cant wait ro see more about the tires on the ZL1. Methinks GM is using something really soft. While useless between brands the wear rating is a good reflection of how the tire compares within a brand. Ford ulled this **** with the the KR Shelbys even though both the GT500 a.d the KR wore the same size rubber and the same type. They had very different wear ratings. If this is the case with the ZL1 then expect to see a reduction in prowesswhen people start replacing the tires with a more conventional tread compound.
Re: 2013 GT500 Base MSRP = $54,995
I believe the ZL1 and GT500 run the same rubber, stock. According to some engineers, if you heat the hell out of them, they actually hook really well.
They are pretty soft.
