How else will you determine exactly "how fast" it is then? Taking it to the track will in fact, determine what kind of power you're making and how well the car is setup. Otherwise, you're pissing in the wind.

a 100 shot on a C6Z06, if installed properly, will result in a car capable of a 10 second timeslip with the right driver... it's not speculation, it's fact
and if someone installs a 100 shot on theirs, and it doesn't run 10's, then the only possible reasons are that they are not a good driver, the system was installed incorrectly, or the car is broken
We're not talking about a Z06. We're talking about your car. If you want to find out the true performance of how well you have it setup (suspension, mods, etc) the best and ONLY way to effectively do that is to TAKE IT TO THE TRACK. Unless of course, you want to continue guessing or want to play with dyno #'s which are useless.

I'll give you a prime example of why dyno #'s are useless too. My old GT showed only like 440rw on the dyno because it had a really loose stall converter but the car trapped 131mph through the 1/4 with me hitting the brakes. So with your theory, does 440rw equal 131+ traps? I'm interested in hearing how you come up with how well a car could/would/should perform. Technically speaking, my old car should have NEVER trapped that high according to the horsepower #'s.

I'm not trying to bust your chops ... I am, however, interested in how "YOU" come up with exactly how the car runs without taking it to the track. Do you speculate #'s on the dyno or what your friends cars run?

If you made anything near the power you think it does or went has fast as you think your car is...you would have a built 4L60E, but I bet you don't and let's say you have a built 4L60E, I bet you are running a stock 10 bolt would have died a long time ago....on street tires.

Who did your tune...what did it dyno...don't tell me your running around on this badarse combo with a base cookie cutter tune...

A timeslip is an indication of how the car runs...if you car ran 11's I would be surprised....been around LT1's to know them pretty well....

But that's right, you don't have to prove anything to anyone...

That only really applies if your setting it up to run at the track. If you've got it set up to run best at the track, then you're going to lose some on the street. The track only effectively tests a very small aspect of a cars performance. If the only thing that concerns you is accelerating for a 1/4 mile from a dead stop then yeah, the track is perfect for you and thats how you should test and tune your car. I'm not willing to gear my car for the 1/4 mile. I'm not willing to live with a loose converter or without overdrive. I'm not willing to live with front springs that let the front end rise easier and make the car handle like crap. Race cars are only fun to drive at the track, everywhere else they're a pain in the but.

Really? Do tell me more. I drove the same car 100+ miles down the beltway on a car cruise a few years ago and handling was just fine but then again, I hadn't set it up to take turns at 100mph. By the way, the car also had overdrive (was a Ford built AOD w/overdrive). The car also had 3:73 gear. Not much more then your average car from the factory (the car came with 3:27 gear).

BTW, car had no cage and retained a/c and all the other creature comforts up until the last year when I wanted to bump things up and run 30 pounds of boost, kept shredding belts, and that got old quick Not to mention, my goal was to hit 140+ traps.

So..... I'm still listening to your reasoning and it's not there just yet. Let's try again... we're not talking about a car that was trailored to/from the track... we're talking about a full street car that was driven to/from the track.

Well then you had a nice car, I've had cars in the past that were lots of fun at the track and a pain on the street. One of my favorite cars was an 81 Camaro, and it was set up to run good at the track. I drove it on the street with 4.56 gears and a transbrake, plus the usual big and skinnies with et streets on the back. That car was nowhere near as fun to drive as the Z I have now

One thing I WILL agree with you is that you have to use some common sense with coilovers up front and a suspension more geared around "track" type use. I ran a 90/10 up front and 50/50 on the back.

It was a nice car for sure and I ended up trading it for my current cobra which currently has 4:10 gears and is gonna have 4.56 or 4.88's soon The cobra is a high rev'ing engine and LOVES the rpms.

You have a nice car, don't take it wrong. You just don't have the parts that make it go as fast as you think.

Your car looks real clean.

Thats great man, if you like the track then hell yeah, build it to do what you like to do. I just dont understand people automatically assuming my car cant run cause I havent been to the track with this engine yet lol. I dont know exactly what it's gonna do at the track, but I do know it's a good bit better than the 12.30's it used to run.

I bet we could actually get along if we weren't busy name calling lol.

I do honestly know its not set up to be a fast 1/4 mile car, it's not my first car, nor am I a "bench/internet racer" My whole family has been into racing since before I was born, and I almost LIVED at the track until I was around 10 years old. All my jobs were car jobs until I decided to be a firefighter. I was a Manager for Super Shops until they went bankrupt, and I've worked in machine shops, body shops, race tracks, parts stores and even repo'd cars for awhile lol. I dont really expect it to run mid to low tens. I do believe it will be somewhere in the 11's as it sits with no problem going off of previous track times and my current butt dyno. I still have all my A4 stuff though if I ever want to switch it back and try to go fast in the 1/4

No, we're actually not talking about my car. We were talking about breakmyfootoff's car. And I never made any claims about my car. I never played with any dyno numbers, never even mentioned dyno numbers. I never even made a guess as to what my car runs. I simply stated a goal of a 10 second time slip. Never said I could do it as my car sits today. Stating goals and making claims are worlds apart.

Yes, you do have to go to the track to find out EXACTLY what a car is capable of, but you don't need to go to a track to have a good ballpark figure as to what a car is capable of. I used a C6Z06 as an example because everyone knows they run mid 11's bone stock. So if someone had one and strapped a 100 shot on (correctly installed of course) and this person was know to be a good driver, and he claimed he had a 10 second car but hadn't taken it to the track yet, nobody could argue with him because everyone knows a C6Z06 can run 10's with a 100 shot. Benchmarking in this case is quite alright. Since hundreds of others have gone 10's easy with a 100 shot then his car will to if he can drive it, end of story. You don't need to have track numbers to be able to gauge the RELATIVE ABILITY some cars.

Good luck with your goal of 10's!

Thanks, I'll definitely be reporting back. I get the computer put back in the car in the next couple of days and I might be heading over to Thompson, OH this weekend to run the car NA and see where I'm at with my setup thus far. Almost every single mod I have has been done over the past month. I'll be running a completely bone stock suspension and 275 street tires. I'm hoping to get a few runs in at least to try out a couple different launching styles. I'm shooting for breaking 12.5's with street tires and stock suspension. The next time I run I'll have QA1's in the back and hopefully some drag radials and the goal will be 11.9's. Then once I hit the sauce the goal is going to be 10.8's. It's gonna be a fun summer.

I plan on hitting the dyno two weekends from now, then a track rental on 5/22. Hopefully the numbers will correlate pretty well for me. I expect a 500-550rwhp M6 fbody to run mid 11's @ 125mph (I have low expectations until I get some runs under my belt).

Anyone know where I can rent a flatbed trailor?
