How can i pick up .2 ?
Take whatever advice you want to away from this thread, but the people that know what they are doing don't need to spend $$$$ to go fast...take Frank95z (I think?) and his stock head, stock cam car that runs 11's...there are a lot of other factors involved.
Like LT1nderful, I'm not rich either, so the only mods I have been able to make is whats in the sig, and I got the headers used. I seriously doubt I wil be able to drop the money for a cam, heads, or even an aftermarket cat-back, so I am going with the cheapest way I can find that I still like (Dynomouth for me). After that I will probably concentrate on getting traction and possible weight loss, and maybe if I'm lucky I'll see a 12 second slip like he has. Is it the best way to go? I dunno, but its about the only way I can do it while still maintaining a healthy marriage
Trey, you have a serious tendancy to jump full force into railing someone for a concept that differs from your own...believe it or not there are different ways to do it. You certainly don't have to have LT's all the way if you want to run fast, and I challenge anyone to get LT's, plugs, wires, O2 sensors, gaskets, bolts, etc for under $500 as I have done with shorties.

Expressing differing opinions and "railing" someone are two COMPLETELY different things.
Second- I dont feel like going to look back but I beleive I was disagreeing with the whole "long tubes slow you down" statement.
Budget is something that is on YOUR shoulders. Some have virtually unlimited pockets while others have very limited budgets. That does not change the fact that long tubes will get you down the 1320 faster than shorties.
You can make your own CAI, slap on a cutout, barrow some tires and strip the car- spend about $150 and drop 1/2 a second. No arguement what so ever.
My argument was "safety first." Some dont feel the same. Thats fine, but I have just as much a right to put my two cents as he does about it being perfectly safe.

It frankly pissed me off that somebody even suggested removing the bumper supports...are you that F!CKING STUPID???????????
I am lucky to be alive because of those. Without that extra prtection or my head being in the wrong posistion i would have snapped my neck. I spent the last 6 months in a neck brace and a sling...and in physical therapy. I was hit in the rear by a subaru wrx going at 70+mph while i was parked. My camaro's bumper flew off and over the car and was 15 ft infront of it after impact. That bumper guard was the only thing that helped stop the wrx from reaching my backseat. The car took so hard of an impact my frame bent to the point that the doors could not be opened. The paramedic said i was lucky to be able to walk or live after seeing my car. I can't explain the amount of frustration i get when somebody suggests removing a bumper guard for .03 maybe, that is just plain idiotic. But on the other hand if you are truely that dumb to do something like that...you deserve to be the jackass paralyed or dead from a crash.
Man some people **** me off!

I apologize for your accident and I'm happy to see that you were safe. However, when I was 17, I rolled my 240sx 4 times at 75mph. I was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, which enabled me to fall sideways into the passenger seat and escape the crushing-in of the roof (which was resting a 1/4 way down on the driver's seat when the car came to a stop). I stepped out of the car with a small scratch on my hand. The doctors and highway patrol all said that it was one of those cases where if I'd had my seatbelt on, I would likely have suffered major injuries, potentially fatal.
Do you see me telling people NOT to wear seatbelts? No! Know why? Because I'm not a F*$CKING moron! And, I do NOT appreciate your remarks.
both of you calm down-
sheesh. You tell him not to "flame" and you sound equally immature.
The point is- I'd hate to see what happens in an accident with such crappy impact distribution over .025 seconds- thats right 1/4 of a TENTH of a second- which can be lost due to a mild breeze.
LT1derful-
No flame, do what you like but I think you shouldn't be preaching such unsafe practices.

I called him an a-hole for his actions. My actions prior to his rant did not constitute flaming. And his argument was that I was f*cking stupid for removing bumper supports. How is MY removing MY bumper supports going to affect the safety of anyone else but ME?
And, I am calm. I don't appreciate snide remarks, as just about anyone can relate.
And...am I the first person to realize weight is an ET-trimming factor? Ummm...I think not. I'm not PREACHING any thing. It seems to me that you're more hellfire and brimstone than I about things. I offer advice, and it's like candy from a stranger...take it or leave it.
But, I do feel that I have a valid statement being as that I stroll thru these threads, I see full bolt-on cars with cams running tenths behind me; hmmm....they have more HP than I do...strange.

First off a$$hole, if you don't like what I have to say, then chose an appropriate rebuttle. Don't come on here and flame me because of how I choose to modify my car. There's plenty of notation throughout this thread of the safety issues of removing bumper supports.

An A$$hole i may be, but i dont want anybody to get hurt here or something dumb like that. Basically by posting the idea of removing the safety equiptent...you are making the perfect oppertunity for those less wise on this forum to think oh cool i will remove my safety protection and nothing bad could happen.
I am sorry to hear about your accident, thank you for what you said likewise. I would say you owe thanks to whoever thats up there you belive in... if any...because somebody sure had to be watching over you for that one.
I DO NOT want to hear about any of you guys on this forum getting seriously hurt from something like that. I also never intended my remarks to be appreciated...just simply taking into consideration.
Trey - I really dont care how immature my post sounded...i was trying to make a point. Sometimes it takes getting somebody mad to see your point...weather that worked or not...i dont know...but atleast i tried.

I perhpas should note that I do not drive my car daily...well, right now I am, as I'm looking for a more gas-economical commuter. My car is more of a weekend, fun, and drag strip toy. However, I do drive it occasionally, and am putting 100 miles a day on it right now.
I'm an a-hole too, don't usually call people anything I wouldn't call myself, but weight reduction is a big factor in racing, and people that don't know SHOULD know that. But, the more support you remove from your car, the more street unsafe it becomes. On another note, I don't see too many people get flamed about street racing. I could get nasty about that being as how an acquaintance of mine's mother was killed by street racers...but, even I do it occasionally, so I don't get nasty about it.
Either way...everyone has made their suggestions. I'll continue to read this thread to see if any more "valid" advice is given. But I'm done. I've stated my piece, it works for me, it works for others...but it might not be for everyone.

There are reasons for rollcages, 5pt harness, helmets and bumper supports...
Do as you wish, 25lbs isn't worth the risk in my eyes-
I think its pretty lame to come in here calling me lame because of my point of view. Most will agree- safety first.
Also- i cant see those plastic things wieghing 12.5 lbs a piece

I agree with you, saftey should be on the minds of all of us. LT1derful isn't saying to go out and drive on the rainy highways and around town with out bumper supports. I thought this thread was how to loose .2sec at the track. Takeing out your bumper supports "at the track" is an effective way to reduce some weight on your car and combined with other weight reductions is a good way to cut a deeper/faster et.
