What happened to the Ste. Therese story

I'm really interested in DC's LX car developements. I am very, very interested in checking out the new Charger. If I like it, I'm not too concerned if it's called Charger, or Challenger, or Daytona...or frankly, even Intrepid. If Buick's Zeta coupe is called Riv, or Wildcat, or even Velite...I might have my preferences....but it wouldn't bug me too much, one way or the other. That's how I feel about those cars.
But not calling a Camaro...Camaro is something I just can't take. Sure, I'd check it out. I would be very interested in it's mechanicals....but it would bug me a whole bunch. It would probably bug me so much that I couldn't buy it. For me..the desirability of that car would drop several notches in my eyes.
Plenty would buy it....but it would not be a car that I would covet.
If I were in the market for a Corvette....and it had a ghetto chain steering wheel and it was called Citation....I wouldn't buy that either.
Go figure...

Look, all the hystrionics going on here don't help anything.
If I remember the poll right, Camaro was the third most recognized vehicle name in the industry behind Corvette and Mustang.
GM knows that.
I'll tell ya another thing though...
Most of the folks screaming about not buying it if it doesn't have the name are going to be the same folks screaming about it not being a Camaro if it doesn't match THEIR perception of what the car is 100%.
It's the same crap C6 is going through now. GM builds a vastly better car than the previous generation and a VERY SMALL group of folks start whining about the damned steering wheel.
Let me cover that again...
GM replaces the current car with a better-performing, basically identical price, nicer interior, all-around better car and a bunch of hysterical women b!tch about the F*CK*NG STEERING WHEEL.
GM could put a ghetto-style chromed and welded chain in the car for a steering wheel and I couldn't give a **** less about it - the thing will run neck and neck with a Viper on a road course for a little over half the price...
Jesus H. Christ.
Send the emails in, let them know you care about the name and would sure like the thing to be called a Camaro.

The other problem is its pretty much now or never. It they don't call the new coupe Camaro when it comes out, they are not going change it a couple years later once they get thier S**t together.

Remember how they got rid of the Z/28 in favor of the IROC/Z and then brought it back? If the name ceases being an issue, just a nip and a tuck, here and there and the Chevrolet C8 is gone in favor of the "new 2010 Chevrolet Camaro!"
Well, at least we now know the answer to, "What's in a name?", at least for some people.
And that if you called a rose a turnip, it would *definitely* not smell as sweet. At least for some people.
This has been quite fascinating.
They took away the regular Z28 for the IROC-Z28, not quite the same as calling the car itself F5 or Chevelle. (or some other nonsense)

Regardless of the high level of emotions here, the argumentation going on is about nothing more than a rumor.
Again, send the emails and call customer service, be nice and professional and tell them you would sure appreciate the opportunity to buy a high performance coupe with the name and heritage of a Camaro on it in the next few years.

It's been very educational, too. I never realized how much emotion was attached to the name.
I mean, I own two Camaros: a '98 and an '02. I certainly like the car. But I'd like it just as much with a different name, as long as there was not an unpleasant association to the name (like Horsefood or something silly like that
).Hopefully everyone who writes a letter will buy a car when and if it comes out.
I'm not extremely partial to the name Camaro as i bought a Firebird :P But I do love my F-Body. That being said this is gonna sound kinda selfish. But if GM can't come out with a Forced Induction version of their new coupe that can stick it to the Cobra then I'
d rather they just let the F-Body die. What's another N/A car gonna do for us? Just make my F-Bod(which I have no plans of selling) worth less and look older. As it stands I have the last of a breed. So if GM is really gonna do this let's do it right. I want a blower or turbo on the Firehawk/WS6/SS package. No more sticker and graphics special edition. A different engine! Forged internals, adaquate fuel(with room for upgrades), a PCM that can handle tuning and boost, A 12-BOLT REAR!!! (screw IRS). That's the makings of a cobra killer. Something that with a grand in mods(pully, exhaust, intake, tune) can eclipse 500 rwhp. A car like that, obviously isn't the mainstream V8, but for the special models would put the F-Body back up top. Give it an updated interior and exterior and you could easily slap a $35-38K price tag in 2007 dollars. If they did that I bet they'd sell like hotcakes.
Just my $0.02

Just a follow-up to my original post (the one I deleted for now):
The Ste Therese plant is now undergoing demolition.
Should be interesting to see what changes in attitude come about once that plant is razed.

Talk about a negative turning into a positive.
