Why is that factory being knocked down such a good thing?
People are losing their jobs and you guys are acting like they're tearing down the Berlin Wall, makes me sick

Have you been following whats going on?

Sure a lot of CAW (Canadian Auto Workers) lost their jobs. But a lot of them were retiring anyway (by a lot, I mean a huge percentage) and GM has found jobs for most of the other ones or has created new jobs to make up for it. The St. Therese plant was outdated way before they even closed it in '02.

We feel its a good thing because now theres a better chance at seeing a F5 because GM won't be stepping on any (or as many) toes by bringing out the "Camaro" name again.

Yeah like he said, the plant has been closed since 02 so it's not like these people just lost their jobs.

I don't know if you read guion's first post about this story but part of the "agreement" GM made was that if for any reason the plant closed, GM must provide a pension or find another job for that person within like 3 years or something. Ask guion, he could tell you more.

Actually, since nothing has been going on at the factory for 2 years... they are creating jobs by knocking it down, even if they are temporary.

EDIT: realized that one misspelling was rather bad. lol.

d rather they just let the F-Body die. What's another N/A car gonna do for us? Just make my F-Bod(which I have no plans of selling) worth less and look older. As it stands I have the last of a breed. So if GM is really gonna do this let's do it right. I want a blower or turbo on the Firehawk/WS6/SS package. No more sticker and graphics special edition. A different engine! Forged internals, adaquate fuel(with room for upgrades), a PCM that can handle tuning and boost, A 12-BOLT REAR!!! (screw IRS). That's the makings of a cobra killer. Something that with a grand in mods(pully, exhaust, intake, tune) can eclipse 500 rwhp. A car like that, obviously isn't the mainstream V8, but for the special models would put the F-Body back up top. Give it an updated interior and exterior and you could easily slap a $35-38K price tag in 2007 dollars. If they did that I bet they'd sell like hotcakes.

Just my $0.02

Mike
I would also assume that you want factor slicks and a factory roll cage in the car also. These cars are going to HAVE to be more livable then the previous gens. Did anyone notice that the Mustang KILLED the f-bodies in Sales? Wanna guess why, it is because not everyone needs the 'superman' car. Not everyone has to have the fastest car around. Those who do can feel free to mod their car but the rest of America needs a car they can drive everyday on the street and feel comfortable in. They need a car more like the Mustang so that is what GM is building. You can complain all you want about it not being fast enough for you but it doesn't matter the car will sell.

On a side note about FI on a factory car. Which would you rather have a car you can put 87 octane into and get 400+ ponies or a car you have to run 93 octane on to get 450+. Now remember this isn't just at the track this is everywhere. The cost difference between a GP GT with the 3.8 non sc and the GTP w/SC is about $1000 a year and that is just the difference between 87 and 93 octane because the cars only have 1 mile difference in MPG. Now lets think about that for a minute before we ask for supercharged V8's across the board from GM ok?

While I get what you're both saying, I'd just like to add my 2 cents to this.

I've been in a many Mustangs and I find the f-body to be much more ergonomically friendly. If I had to choose a car based on interior alone I'd still pick a F-body. I know it's different for everyone but that's what I think.

I also find the interior to bet better but once again we must deal with the public perception. I know a 6'2'' person will fit into the back of a 4th gne f-body but not a mustang. But the perception is that since the stang is more upright it will be more comfortable and livable. Now after seeing the rear seat in the VeLite concept I can honestly say it looks VERY comfortable.

Being that I currently own both a 95 Camaro and a 96 Mustang, I concur with that statement. The Mustang feels like a sardine can compared to the Camaro.

I seriously doubt public perception is that nieve. Sure most car enthusiasts know the truth. Heck most Mustang owners will even admit that the 4th gen F-bodies had more room in them (as long as you don't quote them on it ). However the majority of the non-enthusiast public doesn't even consider the two cars to be in the same class.

Take my wife for instance. She totally cannot understand why my 17 year-old son and I look at, talk about, work on and dream about cars every day. She often says, "between the two of you, you have three Camaros and a Mustang... can't you be happy with what you have? Why are you always looking at cars?" Happiness with what one has comes in degrees, I guess.

I would consider my wife to have the stereotypical non-enthusiast public percention. That said, when I informed her that my 95 Camaro and my son's 96 Mustang were not only in the same class, but slated for the same market niche, she didn't see that. In fact she classified the Mustang as a small car, and the Camaro as something else. She left me with the impression that she feels the Camaro is nothing more than a four seat Corvette, slated for young women and old balding men with huge egos and a lack confidence in the size of their manhood.

Now, if that is the basic public percention about "us" and our Camaros, I'd much rather see a short hiatus to burn that image from the public perception and rebirth of the car as something completely different, and more slated towards what the non-enthusiast public thinks of the Mustang.

Anyway, at least I have my hair.

I feel your pain bro.

My wife is the same way. She can't understand why I spend so much time revolved around all things Camaro.

Her advice to me is...why don't I just buy a "nice car", like a BMW or Lexus.

I agree that this whole hiatus thing might be useful....time for an image makeover.
