Well, there's Panter, but most people don't even know the connection with that one.

Chevrolet SS sounds horrible and is confusing... Like Ford GT. GT what? Mustang GT? oh, The FORD GT..

I agree that Z28 would work better, since it is unique.

However, they just need ot get things worked out and use the right name... Camaro.

With the advertising capitol the name CAMARO carries I can see why they want it so bad....

But considering the level of bad press the GTO gets (because of the lack of some simple hood scoops) ...some Corvette owners and wanna be owners are still pissin and moaning about the loss of flip up headdlights....not to mention the "mullet" image the Camaro used to carry.....and the fact that 50%+ of the people HATE change and will pan the new Camaro no matter what it looks like....it might not be such a bad thing to call it something else...I'd hate it, but it wouldn't be the end of the world......well, maybe close.

I REALLY don't want it to be called simply Z/28 or SS....I like real names......call me old, but the numeric / alphabetical designations leave me cold.

Definetly not up for that. Chevrolet SS what? Chevelle, Nova....and so on? Z28 is Camaro and lets just wait until they can use the name again.

Panther "might" be tied up by Ford for their large car platform designation...

Besides, it wouldn't be right if it didn't start with C

hmmm....

maybe if Chevy wants to get a car to market quickly...they can go ahead and use the new GTO platform...Zeta or whatever.

Lets just call this car a "Coupe" for now. Perhaps this "coupe" runs on a near identical GTO chassis and is a nice 4 person car with V8 RWD drivetrain. It could cover the lower end of the market $25ish buy limiting options and could come close the the GTO price as a well optioned 4 person GT type car. Hopefully this could be done 2006/7. I could see a later 4 door version as well.

In the meantime...

Perhaps a varient of this "coupe" can be developed. Something that uses a modified chassis...to allow for a lower 2+2 long hood type body as well as a vert option. This chassis varient could offer a little more performance in terms of handleing and give up some of the interior room of the "Coupe". Perhaps even offer a "track" version aka 350Z or certain other cars....This car may appear later say 2008/9 and its name could be chosen at that time.

just random thoughts....

As all of you correctly gathered, the info I posted was dead accurate in virtually every aspect. Very VERY accurate, in fact. So accurate that GM security started looking around for leaks (they must not have actually clicked on the links I included in the thread).
Guion,

OMG........

I guess I was also dead accurate on my subsequent post about raising the ire of GM in light of some of your (very accurate) information.

I didn't get a chance to see if you responded to my comments/question, but I truly hope my post didn't raise any further concerns. It was certainly not meant to draw any "negative" attention about your findings.

I guess this turn of events ulimately answers the question I asked you, and in quite a melodramatic fashion I might add........

Hope your o.k!!

It would be blasphemy if the new RWD Chevy Coupe is called anything but Camaro. You can quote me now, I guarantee my first Camaro will be my last and I will have a shiny new Mustang sitting next to my ’65 in 2008 when I’m ready to buy my first new car if GM doesn’t ball up and name their new Car Camaro. I'm a huge Camaro fan, but hell I may never buy a GM car again. Ford is looking better everyday. They seem to be the last American Car company that actually gets stuff done. It’s Camaro or nothing.

Just saying that if GM decides not use the Camaro name (still a possibility), one option they have (and probally was at least considering) was going the same route they were about to go in 1983 and use initials.

Also, keep in mind Bob Lutz has a liking for changing the names of vehicles redone on his watch. I'm not hinting that's what he's considering. But GM isn't going to ruffle feathers if they don't have to.

Hopefully, they won't.
