It's Official: 2011 Ford Mustang GT has 5.0-liter V8
Personally I think there is a lot Chevy can do with this Camaro. It's only the first year. Look at how far the F-body evolved from 1993 or the Vette from 1997.
If they address and refine the suspension tuning the car will handle a lot better. Gears are a must.
HP can always be increaed. But I think if GM was serious about contending with the Mustang in performance I think they need to have an answer for the track pack. Wider tires with lighter wheels, exhaust option, gears and a stiff suspension using existing geometry. It would't be expensive and it would't be hard to do. Since we've heard the Z28 was done and just waiting for the green light I'm sure those parts have already been developed. Call it 1LE on the SS...

Ive been saying 3650 with Brembos and what I thought would be wider wheels/tires for about a year now. Looks like I was dead nuts accurate. I don't need a prize though. The reality is prize enough. Great job Ford on everything but the wheels and tires.
235's on a 412hp 390tq car with optional 3.73 rear gears is a frickin joke. Speculation on the Mustang boards is they did it to cut down on rolling resistance and improve gas mileage. Think about it, how bad would it look if hte 250lbs. lighter, less powerful Mustang GT got equal or worse gas mileage than the Camaro SS? As it stands it only gets 1mpg better even with its huge weight advantage.

You only need to cast an eye on HSV's offerings or even Cadillac's CTS-V to know that MRC will do wonders for Camaro's on track performance. There are other things that GM can do to sharpen up the steering/handling. It's not a foregone conclusion just yet.
The Mustang might look good on paper but it's still not without its obvious flaws, despite a nice new engine.

That's what I suggested. A rim and tire package, gears and a little suspension tuning. A track pack wouldn't cost them anything because the consumer would pay for it. It would be another way for them to make more money while still retaining the performance lead over Ford. Tires don't need to be developed, they just put some markup on some existing brands. GM already has gears it could use. Suspension tuning would barely have to be adjusted. Rims are also no big deal.

NO!! There is NOTHING GM CAN DO the Camaro is now an overweight, underpowered, hunk of junk. It will most certainly be gone before the summer. Destined to go the way of the 4th gen(which was an insanely better car). Since it is only selling to people that have been waiting for seven years and only to them, all the sales will dry up in a month. Ford makes cars for Jesus.

Something I found interesting. My brother who is 6'1" and 200lbs. sat in a 2010 Mustang GT the other day and said he adjusted and adjusted and could not find a comfortable seating position. I found this stange as he is not an unusual size person.
He daily drives a 2004 GTO and has no problems with that car. I have not sat in the new Mustang yet (I'm about the same size as him), but was curious if anyone else has found this same problem?

Not the first time I've heard that to be honest, Overall I fit my car pretty good and I'm 6'2" but I'm also long torso and short legged rather than long legged and short torso (to put it simply). Perhaps there in lies the difference since I find headroom more of an issue
I lliterally cannot fit in a Crossfire no matter how I adjust the seat which is wierd to me since I can squeeze into all manner of small cars; S2000, SLK 230 (wtf, isn't that essentially the same car?), old school mini, ect

For sure the Camaro can be improved. But it'll be hard - impossible - for Camaro to compete with Mustang, tit for tat. And we all know why, even those who won't admit it.
If I were king of GM I'd try to sell as many Camaros as possible in the short term. But I'd also be cognisant that it's replacement needs to get pushed to the front burner ASAP.
I just want to ask.. Who over there in GM thought it was a good idea to tune in so much numbing understeer in the Camaro? And why? It just doesn't make any sense.

Why not? It IS safer. We are talking about a car that MANY people, including younger drivers, bad drivers, etc. can afford.
Shoot, even the Corvette Z06 is tuned for understeer from the factory.
I was very surprised to read some of the 2010 Mustang GT Track Pack reviews that said the car was prone to oversteer. Ford better not do that on the 2011 GT with 412hp or insurance prices might go through the roof in a few years when everyone is wrapping them around trees trying to show off to their buddies.
