Re: Engine Swap Thread. V6 to...?

Sure it'll be as easy as hell ...
No computer crap so wiring isn't much of an issue.
I'd opt for a BMR aftermarket Kmember (tubular) with those special engine mounting plates, those are made to fit pretty much ANY SBC or even BBC in the 4th gen.
They have 3 versions:

- Kmember without motor mounts
- kmember with integrated motor mounts
- kmember with motor plates, especially to fit older (carb) engines

Re: Engine Swap Thread. V6 to...?

poeple, swaps arent even worth it. people try to justify it with better insurance costs or whatever, but most insurance companies only look at the fact that its a camaro or TA, not that it has a V8 or V6. it doesnt matter to them, most repair work is calculated from body damage and the bodies arent different, only thing that made my insurance go up was i got rid of my 94 v6 and bought a 99 vert Z28. the power difference is TREMENDOUS, the price is NOTHING comapred to the outrageous cost of a swap, and i ACTUALLY HAVE A LEGITIMATE Z28 instead of having a CLONE! for 4 years i jacked around with wanting to turbo my V6 or swap an LS1, all in all i broke down and bought the Z28, saved money, and i'm 300% happier!

Re: Engine Swap Thread. V6 to...?

If you care to read som of the posts you'll see that some people HAVE no option of trading in due to several reasons, hence the swap.
Also some people were able to do it for a bargain due to a cheap donor car.
We all agree that trading in is the easiest way, but not always an option.

Reguardless, I'm thinking of a 4.3L 280 HP V6 swap from a GMC Syclone.

Yes, supposedly it's a really easy swap. I was looking at buying a S10 with a 3.4L / T-5 out of a 93-95 Camaro.

Re: Engine Swap Thread. V6 to...?

a donor car option that has crash damage is a great way to do it, what sux about my swap is that my v6 car has power NOTHING, no cruise either. basically it is just to much of a pain in the *** to convert everything to power. the motor swap itself is reasonable, but then i thought about having to add cruise and power windows and locks and seats and keyless entry to really make myself happy and said **** it

now i'm gonna sell my v6 car and get a z28.

Re: Engine Swap Thread. V6 to...?

my whole post about the swapping not being worth it, i am not trying to start s**t, i'm just stating that in my experience it boils down to maybe $500 or less saved from a conversion than selling the V6 and getting a Z. i just thought it would be good u u guys to hear of someone who has been through the whole swap hassle and decided it wasnt worth the problems. sorry if i offended u, it was just MUCH easier this way for me.

Re: Engine Swap Thread. V6 to...?

i've got a cousin who has a 3.6 V6 second gen camaro. he's totally fed up with the slow heap, but doesnt think he can handle the power or afford a V8, plus he wants good gas milage. has anyone ever done a 3.4/m6 swap into older camaros? and does anyone have an old 3.4/m6 that was taken out from an LS1 or LT1 upgrade for sale?

Re: Engine Swap Thread. V6 to...?

I've got an '95 3.4/4L60E from a swap for sale... And by the way, If I had it to do over again , I would. I don't mind dropping gas mileage from 30 to 25 with the LT1.

motor for sale here

Re: Engine Swap Thread. V6 to...?

I have a question about doing a engine swap on my 96' Camaro 3.8 L V6. I was given a 350 V8 that needs a crankshaft kit basically to get it back in running order, but of course I am wanting to do some upgrades to the engine. I also was given a transmission to fit it all of that for free and the transmission is fine with a shift kit! Anyways the engine was for a truck and the year is 74' and I was wanting to put this in my car and make it carbarated(sp). I was wanting to know what kind of modding I may have to do to make it fit. Any help would be greatly aprreciated. Thanks in advance!

Re: Engine Swap Thread. V6 to...?

Oh boy, you are looking at a SERIOUS amount of modding here and quite a bit of $$$$$$$$$$$
You will need an aftermarket K member to start with with special universal SBC motor mounts to start with otherwise the engine could never be mounted, then you would have to do all your things to that engine (gets expensive really quick), mount that tranny, probably have a custom propellor shaft made in order to have that tranny mounted, custom tranny k member, cowl hood most likely and let's not forget some alternative way to control the dashboard, for instance the speedo that gets pulses from the PCM which is now not used anymore in that sense as i highly doubt the speedsensor fits that tranny you want to use.

Just some quick issues and i'm probably missing 50% ....

If you are thinking of going this route since you basicly got that sbc 350 for free and end up saving money i think your mistaken, sorry.
