Re: Engine Swap Thread. V6 to...?

As far as the list of what is needed see the beginning of this thread, it's pretty complete.
As far as performance i'd do a search in the LT-1 section and you'll find about 1024 topics covering this.
What it basicly comes down to is:

- CAI
- LT headers
- Bigger injectors
- Freeflowing exhaust
- Proper ported and FLOWED heads
- Cam to match the heads

That's basicly enough for a serious power increase of at least 100FWHP.

Re: Engine Swap Thread. V6 to...?

the v6 cross member has the mounts in different location along with being formed different so that the v8 motor actually can sit in the cradle lower then the v6.

you can find k members around here and there for about 100 bucks.

i'm doing a swap now.

any questions email me.

Re: Engine Swap Thread. V6 to...?

As far as actually removing the engine/trans, I've pulled my V6 A4 out the top together before, but it was a b****. I've also see it done, by disconnecting the driveshaft, trans crossmember, wiring/fuel/hoses etc and finally the k-member and lifting the car up and rolling the engine out from under it. I have access to a 2-ton ceiling hoist, and put the car on some 2 ft. ramps when I pulled the V6 the 1st time. But now I'm thinking about pulling the ramps out of the garage and just doing it when its on the floor by lifting the car off the engine. This way I could just put the wheels on the other k-member and roll it in. I've heard that the car is designed to have the engine removed/installed this way. What do you guys think is the easiest way?

Dropping the engine is the easiest way hands down.
Removing from the top is more work and requires more skill, tools and headaches.
There have been several how to's online how you can remove the engine the quickest and easiest way possible, and that's by dropping it.
Pulling the engine from the top is a waste of time.

Can the 3.4L be swapped into a 92 S-10 which has a 2.8L currently? That'd be kind of fun if it was a mostly painless swap.

Re: Engine Swap Thread. V6 to...?

Since the 3.4 is merely a bored and stroked 2.8 i think it could be done without too many problems.
It will have some parts/accs and wiring which are ofcourse different but that can be dealt with easily, the important things are the motor mounts which i reckon are in the exact same spot.

Hmm. Thanks. It'd be fun to throw in a 3.4 or 3.8 and toss a turbo on it. I'd have a pretty quick beater S-10 that still got good gas mileage....

Re: Engine Swap Thread. V6 to...?

ya i was in the process of doing a swap then decided for now to just fix my v6 cuz it was cheaper at the time, but the forward harness does have some differences, for example a coolant level sensor, and the 2 radiator fans, etc.

the forward harness runs under the master cylinder and disconnects inside. its sorta a pain to stuff it all out the little hole to rip it all out. but there are people that did a swap without it, they just must wire up the fans and say the hell with the coolant level sensor.
