I was not comparing the vette to a civic. I said why did they not just BUY a vette rather than soup up the cheaper chevys back in the 50s. I said they did because they were cheap(not the vette) I was saying people took those slow heavy cars back then(55 chevys,ect.) and made them fast...just like young kids today are taking cheap little civic hatchbacks and fixing them up. I was never comparing a civic to a vette man. You just mis understood me. I also said I was wrong for calling people rednecks...that was my bad. You made some good points though. I was bored and it sounded like a good topic to hear everyones opinions on. The only people i responded back to harshly to were the ones that had to put ME down because I made them upset with my topic ,and they could not think of anything good to say so why not just talk crap. Not to open this can of worms....again. But what a lot of people don't realize is that the reason the big three are having problems competing with the imports and are losing profits as well as market share is that they are being held up by there own workers. It's not the Japs or Germans, it's the UAW union that is killing our domestic market. While market share is slipping and profits are gone, the UAW is getting higher wages than ever before....huge, long pensions....etc. etc. The only way to offset these labor costs are to cut corners in other areas.....or simply lose money. Check out this month's issue of Car and Driver....excellent article on the subject.

I don't see how this post is idiotic and short sighted at all. You got to think about it so how is that short sighted. Even though I originally apoligized about disrespecting people in the first post I did not feel I had too. I was not really aiming that at individuals. It was just like a joke to get peoples attention. If someone says I hate assh*les everyone is gonna say ME TOO. I don't know of many people that will claim they are one. If you are from the country doesn't make you a redneck. My vocabulary is that a redneck is an ignorant and prejudice person from the country. So if you are not all 3 it duz not pertain to you. Yes ok ill start by saying the supra is an awesome car. But what exactly is your definition of a street car? Sure that 'guy' that runs 9.8's with his supra can be daily drivin but do you think he runs race gas all the time? Supras are fast but to be that fast you need to run race gas because of such high boost. With an LT1/LS1 you can stroke it, then super/turbo it and run 10s/9s on pump gas (daily driver) and not have turbo lag all the time. I love how people claim to have daily drivers that run race gas. If you cannot goto your local gas station and fill up with premium, but need to goto a performance shop or something to get 110octane you would call that a daily driver? Cmon.

So i could be out on the street with my stroked/turbo'd 383 LT1 running 93 octane and race a supra with 110 octane and 25lbs boost and he will be a good race. But when his tank is empty and he fills up with 93 (cuz its a daily driver) ill stomp him into the ground. Am i making any sense here? Does anyone get my point?

The average wage of an "Autoworker" is about $45-55,000/year ($18-24/hr), the C.E.O. of GM made roughly $20,000,000.
That would take the average worker WELL OVER 300 years to make that much.....WHAT WAS THAT ABOUT OVERPAID UNION WORKERS???????

No employee of a company should feel justified in making over 1,000 times what the average emplyee makes there...it just can't be justified.

Just want to add something w/o reviving the thread. It's NOT about Hate, or the people, or what nationality. In fact the cars aren't that bad, and the aftermarket is Excellent. It's the FACT that they(Countries) carry on such UnFair trade ethics, I mean:
1) They don't pay their workers what they're worth, just "poverty wages".(I consider Slave wages..some$3-10/day.(China/Mexico)And we maintain a market for them to continue.
2) Now say you buy a Honda in Japan, cost maybe $20,000. Now buy a comon Ford Taurus off the same car lot. The price is over $35,000 for a car that should cost $16,000. Now come to America, buy a similar Honda $20.000's, similar price, NOT DOUBLE!... Is that a fair trade practice???...
3)A pair of "Nikes" are made in China for less than $1...! And shipped here and sold for $120. I like a profit too but D**N!!!

The point is it SHOULD matter...but we get caught up in being Politically correct and get pressured into overlooking these things. Our power as a comsumer is absolute...we stop buying , they change, period...

This was only true to some extent in the earliy to mid '80's when strict Govt guidelines tied the hands of American Manufacturers. As the '90's moved in we rapidly caught up and brought the pride back home. But some people were still stuck in a time warp from the '80's and didn't even give the domestics a good lookover. And these Mags like Car&Driver and Motor Trend were still worshipping imports and "*******" Domestics.
Now with the "Import Crowds" on the west coast tricking these cars out with $5,000 stereo's and hydrolics and rediculous body kits and stickers, Mags are beginning to worship them again.
If I put $30,000 in my IROC it would be idolized too. The aftermarket for these cars is Phenominal!!!and that's really what the Buzz is about........
For once I'd like to see a REAL Street Racing Movie about what REALLY goes on with Real Iports AND Modern Domestics. Showing things like how many parts get broken on these imports with all the Nitrous and big turbos. Not just the Fantasy stuff.

 

You prove it!!!!! It is your wild claim. Where did you hear this? MAYBE they make shoes for $5-10 per pair and sell them for $50-70 per pair. But less than a buck and sell for $120? That is pure bs, if not prove it!!! Put up or shut up.

I know what you're saying, but it's not that cut and dry. Sure the Supra has to run race gas to take full advantage of the turbo's output, but that doesn't mean it's slow on 93 octane.....it'll make 600rw all day on 93. A stroked v8 with a 25 lbs blower or turbo isn't going to meet it's full potential either on 93. It'll make more power because of the extra displacement, but it'll be running a lot of timing retard....put in some 110, put the timing back in, and it'll make more power too.
