trouble starting

I have a 95 z28 that turns over but wont start. we redone the head gaskets, and the intake gaskets. replaced the optispark. My husband sprayed it with starting fluid and it cranked, then we finished putting all of it back together and now its not. There is plenty of gas going to the injectors. Someone help I bought this car after waiting 7yrs to have another one, drove it home and havnt gotten to drive it since.

Check to see if the coil is firing. If it is, check to see if you have spark coming out of the optispark. If both of those look good, next suspect the fuel system for inadequate pressure. You can check fuel pressure using a fuel pressure test gauge available at pretty much every parts store.

If you aren't getting any spark out of the coil, you can follow this diagnostic to help track down the issue:

Good luck!

Have you checked the PCM for codes?

all the fuel pressure is reading normal. he sprayed starter fluid in the throttle body and it started but died quickly. We did check the codes and it showed open circuit, but none of the wires are cut or broken, checked all fusable links and fuses, he says its acting like there is not fire. we replaced the coil module, and the opti spark.

What PSI was the fuel pressure reading?

How about the security light? Is it on?

Its not sounding spark related if it fired and then died...pressure should be 40#

security light is on when you turn the switch on. before when it was running it was not though, and the pressure reading was 40. I have noticed that the engine tempature cooling sensor plug is broken would that cause it to do this, you can still plug it up but im not sure if that is whats causing it not to crank.

does the light flash or just come on and the go back off after the key has been on, the temp sensor wouldnt cause it not to start

It isnt sounding like its the VATS either, to be clear did the car run with starting fluid, or did it just "bust off" or try to start?

it ran with the starting fluid, thats why i am wondering if it could be my throttle body?

sounds like its fuel related somewhere, connections to the Mass Air, and injectors, could be a lot of things these are just guesses from your symptoms
