Cold air and cat-back on my 97 M6 formula

13.65 @ 102.78 w/ 2.12 60 ft. 70 deg air with 80% hum.

First and last past on that clutch!!..It let go a little on the 1-2 shift but held fine on the 2-3 and 3-4 shift.

Im hoping for 13.3s @ 105 or so with new the new clutch!! and 12s with long tubes and drag radials.

Later,
Jason Coffman

they make some 4.6 heads but its like me with the 4.3 i had. I could get after market heads but the stock 96+ heads were the best bang for the buck. The Sy/Ty guys do that all the time. The 4.6 guys just get some 99+ heads and slap those on there.

To answer the original question:

I ran 14.592 in the 1/4 with all my stereo equipment in the car, my kids car seat, small road side tool set, etc... All I did that day was pull up at the track, let my wife and kid out, put the cooler out and pull into the staging lanes. This was my first time to the track.

After a couple of mods: Throttle Body bypass, low-temp thermostat and SLP CAI, I took it back to the track. I removed all the "extra" crap that I could. No speaker box, no tool set, no car seat, etc... I managed a 14.299 with a 2.13x 60' time.

I'm running an Auto transmission with 2.73 gears. I think the clutches in my posi are starting to let go, but I'm not sure.

I now have a Magnaflow exhaust and have not run yet.

the heads on the 99+ stangs are the only real difference in the 4.6 from 96-98 and the 99+ engines and they flow a lot better and is why 4.6 people do the swap, just by doing the swap you get if I am not mistaken its like 10 or 15 HP more than the 99+ cars because of the higher compression , and once again thanks for all the responses

Last summer I raced a new GT stang (the one with the bullit wheels, 2002 or 2001??), race wasn't so long about an 1/8th mile. Anyway, we were side by side through 1st, 2nd I start to pull........in the end I had 2-3 cars in about an 1/8th. That's with just a cutout and a homemade intake, nothing else at that time.

I also raced a couple other older stangs last year. Still 99+ GTs, they were prolly '99s or '00s. Walked everyone of them steadily. One guy was actually pretty pissed off about losing.

Time is in the sig. First time at the track I ran a 14.5. 2 weeks later my fuel pump went . Got a new factory fuel pump, came back to the track and ran 13's all day long. Best run is the sig, everything was stock except for a Ram-Air intake to go with the SS hood which probably doesn't do anything.

LT1's are quicker than 99+ GT's. They are older cars and a lot have been beaten to ****. They should be high 13's cars when in good running condition IMO. I've heard of 99+ GT's breaking into the 13's when stock but have yet to seen one. A lot of LT1's are in the 13's stock.

I am sorry, I was under the impression we were comparing stock for stock here. I was also under the impression you had a 99+. Oh well, I guess it is time I should start looking more closely at the sigs. I still say that it has been MY experience that the 4.6 and the LT1 are fairly close, but the LT1 usually comes out on top. Now when headswaps and whatnot are entered into the equation, things are a little different. I think if you went through all the trouble of swapping heads and did not pulverize a stock/lightly modded LT1 it would be pretty sad.

Im not going to read all the posts here.

My friend has a 01 convertable GT with a 5-spd. I have a 93Z28 hardtop with the A4, with 170,000 miles. My only mod is a magnaflow exhaust. Everytime we race, he gets a little jump me, then ends up about a car length and a half till about 115 miles. I always quit there.(mainly because he starts reelling me in, but i shut off right in time. He thinks he is just catching up cuz i am letting of the gas )

Besides, 115mph is WELL beyond 1/4 mile with your mods, and the quarter is what really counts, IMO. Unless, of course, you at the flats doing top speed race tests or something.
