yeah isn't that the truth....man I'll never forget my header install for as long as I live...but then again...cam, heads are about a month away and then the stroker in a year so I'm sure I'll get even more of the joy of working on an LT1's confined spaces ...but then again it's worth the outcome.

I like both mustangs and Camaros, my dad has a NA modded 92 302 LX hatchback that will hand most everyone on this board there assets, but its amazing what 7G's of modification will do....

97 steeda, hello there i have a friend with a 96 gt with all the bolt ons but still falls behind. He is looking into the PI head swap as well, how much power does the swap putout, like at the crank and at the wheels? Will he be able to hang with me? I have longtubes, and an XE cam going in REAL soon and he thinks he will walk me.....hard. No offense or anything but i doubt he will. Also if you could just give me some info about the head swap, whats involved, how much, where to get parts, etc. My friend will be very greatful. Thanks dude

OffspringZ28 I am currently putting together a list of all the parts needed for the head swap along with part numbers I can send them to you when I get it together if you like, and as far as him walking you probably not, but I don't think You will walk him either the 96-98 and 99+ GT's are basically the same except for the heads, and when you do the head swap the compression goes up from 9:1 to I believe its 10.5:1 so by bolting the 99+ heads onto a 96-98 is basically giving you a 99+ motor but with higher compression resulting in a few more ponys

why even compare a lt1 to a 99+ GT
that is stupid compare a 99 Z28 to a 99GT and the camaro wuold whip it all over the road
if you compare the other way then it is just pathetic that it took ford 6 years to compare to an engine that canme out in 93 for the camaro
that is really sad for ford

Lol I was thinkin the same thing. I raced an 03 gt last weekend. I had about a car on him til about 60, then he started pulling slowly, and just went by me at about 100, then we both shut down. they're quick cars, but god, its 10 years newer, it should be able to hand me my ***. lol

Kev I think you maybe woulda started pulling again at 120+ (glad you didn't run that fast on the street though) Those cars are definately quick. They sound fabulous too. Sometimes I don't think the 99+ 4.6 guys get enough respect.

I raced a 99 well-modded Cobra the other night. I know the guy, and we just happened to come across each other on our ways home.

We bumped off at like 40mph (we'd previously bumped at 60 - I was in 3rd and couldn't walk him) this time in 2nd gear. I take the jump like nobody's business and have at least 1.5 - 2 cars right off the bat. I pull slightly, but he starts pulling hard and at around 105 we're door to door and we shut em down as we approach a hill.

It's a fast ride, and DEFINITELY deserves some major props!! By far one of the best sounding cars I've heard as well.

Mine went 13.73@102 with a flowmaster muffler as the only mod. Everything else was stock.

Well, I do agree that the stock LT1 will beat pretty much all stock mustangs. However, when they are modded, it is a different story. My brother had a 95 Cobra...along with the other 3 stangs he's owned 90 gt, 92 cobra, 95 cobra, and a 00 gt, and when he did his head, intake, LT's(came with car), bassani exhaust(came with car), and E cam install...it was an all out beast. LS1's were like us racing civics. He had 4.10's and the tremec 5 speed and it ran mid 11's all day on street tires. The car was like working on an 86 chevy truck. And all the parts, heads were used stage III, cost him around $1800. Now, every mustang that he has owned (besides the new one)has been stolen...just to show how easy it is to steal them, even with alarms...and one time it was right out of the garrage and other was from in front of the house with us running after the guy. His new car, which sleeps with a pitbull and rottweiler in the garage, is fast as well, it has a fully functional hood ram air, msd, borla x pipe with full exhaust, short throw with 4.10's and a couple grand in suspension and I beat him by atleast a car on average. My stock LT1 ran 14.0x's at about 98-99, and with the cai, msd, exhaust, shift kit and all the free stuff I run 13.7-8's at a little over 100. Plus, with those 4.6's they are expensive as hell to major mod them, like almost a grand just to install headers. Plus, up to 99 they had dung for horsepower. That's just my .02

if we could all target those 98 Cobras we could make Fords look bad all day! funny as hell that they ran .1 - .25 slower than a stock Mustang GT! I took one from a 30 roll till about 85 in that Blazer I mentioned above. All I saw was the upper jaw, teeth, and 2 BIG eyes of the guy cuz I think his bottom jaw was on the floorboard! He said he only had it 2 weeks and had gotten exhaust and that was it, still had all 4 cats which I found out later was one of the problems with those Cobras
