Haha exactly. Dyno numbers mean nothing, its all about ET.

Re: LT1 "cam only" dyno record

Ehh, to some.

To others its all in the MPH.

I could give a **** if I run a 11.5 at 115 or if I run a 13.5 at 115. Theres more to a street car than shooting off the line hard. Besides, thats how you start breaking tons of parts, cutting super low 60' times. If you look at the amount of parts broken on the holeshot versus the rest of the run ... lol

On the flip side of things, if I was building a Racecar, Shon's would be what I would try to emulate.

Bragging about dyno numbers are for Bench Racers!

Re: LT1 "cam only" dyno record

This is real simple. Show me a real cam only dyno sheet in STD that is higher than 369.8hp and I'll shut up. Untill then, you can call me anything you want. I would be upset too if a cam only LT1 dyno'd within 15hp. Like I said not all US dyno shops use SAE. I can post dyno sheets form the same shop that used both( at different times). According to you guys, it should be easy to beat 369.8HP STD. Then stop crying and do it.

I agree with both of you post.

Everybody is guilty of it from time to time(bench racing)...

Re: LT1 "cam only" dyno record

Its kind of a hack, but this is what i came up with for the SAE correction factor for this guy's dyno run:

If you look at the dyno post from the guy's car here:http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=471408

you'll notice the conditions and correction were recorded. Ill repeat the best results here:
Max Power 369.73 Max Torque = 351.96
Run Conditions 91.17 *F, 29.43 in-Hg, Humidity 24%. STD: 1.04

So, the numbers were corrected (STD standard) using a 1.04 multiplier. To get the uncorrected numbers just divide by the correction factor.

369.73 hp(std corrected)/1.04 = 355.51 hp(uncorrected)
351.96 tq(std corrected)/1.04 = 338.42 tq(uncorrected)

Now, to figure the SAE correction factor it was a little tricky. To use the raw SAE J1349 correction formula, you need to calculate the pressure of dry air using the reported conditions. I couldnt figure it out(ill leave that as an exercise for the reader), so i relied on some internet calculators to do the work for me:
http://www.csgnetwork.com/vaporpressurecalc.html
This calculator was used to determine the actual vapor pressure using the reported conditions. I input the ambient air temperature and tweaked the dewpoint until the calculated relative humidity matched the humidity reported on the dyno chart. Using this method I got a dewpoint of 49.3 *F for the day and and actual vapor pressure of 0.35 in-Hg.

http://wahiduddin.net/calc/calc_cf.htm
This calculator takes the actual vapor pressure, absolute pressure and air temperature and determines the SAE J1349 correction factor. Using the following inputs:
air temp: 91.17 *F (reported on dyno sheet)
absolute pressure: 29.43 in-Hg (reported on dyno sheet)
vapor pressure: 0.35 in-Hg (calculated)

I got the following SAE correction factor: 1.022.

So multiplying the SAE correction with the uncorrected numbers:
355.51 hp(uncorrected) * 1.022 = 363.33 hp (sae corrected)
338.42 tq(uncorrected) * 1.022 = 345.87 tq (sae corrected)

I validated this method by checking some of my own dyno results. I have the data files from the runs and the winpep viewer software that lets you correct using whatever factor you want to. Using the method described above, I had less than 1% error figuring the SAE correction using my STD corrected results. I think it would be great if someone doubled checked my work though!!

In summary. I believe the guy has something close to this for his SAE-corrected numbers:
363.33 hp
345.87 tq

FYI - here's some good info on correction factors

Re: LT1 "cam only" dyno record

Just for comparison, I do not have the highest dyno for cam only stockhead lt1, I made 357 rwhp thru mufflers, belt on,3200 stall, and a 12bolt. Now playing the devils advocate with open headers, belt off, converter locked, and a 10bolt. It is reasonable to assume I would have made a lot more hp. That being said I have run 11.27 118.9 with this setup stockhead (streetcar) cam only. Still gets 20mpg on the highway Frank95z
