let me get this straight....if you replace your lifters because they are worn out it is O.K....but if you replace them because you want something better it is not.

I think that's crap, if you can count supporting mods in "cam only" numbers then solid rollers should be allowed, esp since you have to R&R the lifters anyway.
Like I said earlier...mad scientist's friend has the "cam, bolt-on, glue-on, belt off, 45 psi, dyno'd after 10 but before 12 only" record. I don't see what it really matters. If you want to compare your car to someone elses then compare apples to apples. Racing dyno sheets is great and you can use them as a tuning tool to make your car run as best as possible, but what does it matter if you have a half *** record on a forum. If you are that proud of it take it to Pinks and when your friend loses his car at least you will have your dyno sheet and record you can brag about.

Seriously think about what lifters do and what is to gain by having an aftermarket lifter versus a new GM lifter? Old worn out lifters We are comparing hyrdo's here. Solid obviously was not factory, so yes you would need to purchase solid lifters. I think a cam change netting new springs(hardware), lifters, timing chain, and pushrods nets cam only HP record numbers then it is a cam only car.

Come on what does any of the parts in between cam and rockers have that would yeild a fantasatic gain over factory?

Honestly, you might loose a pony or two with them, cause your adding weight. Hardened pushrods, and beefy lifteres weigh more than stock. The more weight you gotta move around, the more power it takes. So busting someones ***** for changing lifters on a Cam Only car I think is kinda gay.

Hahah at first I saw your post and thought it was the "BS" one ... I'm thinking OK it didnt sound THAT unreasonable to loose a HP or two from added reciprocating mass.

What is the SAE record?

Then the car you are talking about isn't cam only. I'm sure it has exhaust, CAI, a tune, headers.

Cam only means no heads, but full boltons.

Ok, 370 STD is the LT1 cam only record. Redline and I have a dyno at the shop now. Hoping to get Bill's car around 379 at the rear wheels(w/ an SD tune).

It will be interesting if you can make up the 20 ft-lbs deficit in tuning. Good luck!

So you're building a dyno queen by using the correction factor that gives the highest #'s and you have no track #'s to back it up?

hey *****... bring that bitch down to louisiana and race frank and see what happens....

and yea a "cam only" car is a car with full bolt on's (lifters RR's etc) and a cam and UNTOUCHED HEADS! that is what a cam only car consists of. if u throw nitrous, a blower/turbo in the mix it isnt cam only nemore and if u touch the heads watsoever, it is not a "cam only car" nemore.
