sweet! my batch number on the new springs i just got dont match any of the bad batches, but the ones in my ss do and that motor cashed out in 200 miles, i mean the motor is dead! i know this is a long shot, but if thier spring caused an engine failure shouldnt they have to pay for the F up? i mean theres no lable on the box that said "we arent liable for product failure" im by no means a money grubber, but i just dont have an extra 4k laying around to rebuild my motor! they messed up and sent out bad product, they should have to pay for thier mistakes!!

EDIT: My point is don't vilify CompCams. If you are worried about your product then call them direct, state your concern, don't sound like an idiot, and I'm sure they will help you.
I ran a solo consulting business for a short time. I hated it and don't plan on doing it again. I did "get bit" (or bitten ), but not for QC reasons. I'm not sure why you threw that little dig in there; seems highly uncalled for to me.

I'm not vilifying anyone. I don't have % failure rates from 918 springs to compare against. I was simply responding to wrd1972's question about what % failure would be acceptable. I'm sure Comp makes tons of springs. The LS1 community has indeed seen sufficient failures to warrant having this conversation, but I have no idea if they've fallen below the 99.99% threshold (which I made up) or not.

IMO, Comp should do one of the following:
1. Announce the % of reported 918 failures and the number of units shipped, and state that rumors have exaggerated a perfectly acceptable failure rate. (of course, they should only do this if it's true)

2. Acknowledge an unacceptable failure rate and exchange any 918s sold after they switched suppliers. (again, only if it's true)

Have the motor diagnoises by a "DEALER" have them document everything. If they say it failed due to a malfunctioning valvespring... that's all you need for the case. The hard part is proving that everything was installed correctly.

Why is this the case, are you concerened about the valves dropping?
Use some wooden clothes pins to hold them up.

they even call them the beehive Springs
The PAC springs I got from Lloyd are definitely not the same as the ones from Comp. The PAC springs had very smooth faces with no machining marks top and bottom where the Comp ones had rough faces from the machining process.

Not a chance in France that a manufacturer will replace engines.

You know I have pretty bad luck, I can see me comming out to my car right now, lifting the hood, and seeing a 16 empty clothes pins laying on my heads with the 16 valve they were once holding missing from them.

I too have the LE2.2 cam and the beehives. No problems here since last year. Mine where professionally installed by Lloyd's head builder, and I have had no problems yet, and hopefully wont as well. It seems that these springs are not good to the .600+" lift previously thought.

For you guys running LE2.2 cam as well, which PAC valve spring did you go with? What is another valve spring good to around .650" lift incase I decide to go bigger cam soon? Crane 144832's, Comp 921's? I guess Crane should be looked at next before Comp.

I did have the ex-612 springs from combination motorsports a few years back, and they shattered on me. The spring broke in 3 places. I know what happens when valve springs break and valves slap.

About the post pat, sorry I honestly couldn't understand what you posted. Didn't mean to insult you though, my apologies. I have horrible spelling also, and just like seeing fellow horrible spellers.

No problem to springs from pac are 1218 but Brett said they have a spline almost the same but is made different being more time put into it we think it's the 1518 if you look at this line they sell them in quantity only 175 if we can get 10 sets sold the regular 1218 in quantity of 10 go for $100 we need to see if we can get a group sailed on I will do 3 sets of the 1518 or the 1218 there's another guy that would do three to four sets I'm going to e-mail pac to see it when we buy these if they can ship them in different directions. Let me now what you all think someone should try posting this I'm not really sure where to or how to go about it. Thank you hers the link http://www.pacracing.com/Beehive_Spr...Set_of_16.html

It's the same spec/size as the 918s and the PAC1218s which use the Comp 795 steel retainers, 611 11/32 super locks, and 4705 spring seats with .570" guides.

With your 2 sets and pats and mine 3 sets there's 8 sets just need 2 more.
We could paypal one person our totals and once its all received that 1 person could order the 10 sets if they won't split up the order and ship to different places.
I have a paypal thats accepts all forms of payments if you want me to do it. Figure $180 per set, and $5-10 shippig or so.

I wrote an e-mail to the company and has them how we could set it up I will probably do three there's another guy on one of my other posts that may do 3 or 4 sets with your two cents we should have it but the more we get the cheaper the price may come out to. Post if you're interested at this link I gave the company the link to and told them to check it out and see how many people were interested if we get a bunch maybe they'll even come down but not sure the price is still awesome
thank you Pat

I have batch #045338 918 springs waiting to go into my motor right now. Should I be worried? This thread has made me paranoid about installing them. Not sure if there pre or post manufacture change.
