Anyone know who the manufacture was that Comp switched to?

I am curious if the problems the SRT-8's are having with valve springs are related to this.

Hard proof is used to change minds based on facts. Hard proof you are looking for is reserved for bigger matters than SBC valve springs. The point here is to inform people of bad experiences of which there seems to be plenty of.

It is fair to say that there will always be a greater percentage of people who wont have problems then those that will.

So what would qualify for hard proof?
25% failed
50% failed
51% failed
It really does not matter. We are not trying to change your mind, we are trying to tell you of our bad experiences and why we think there is something in the water.

I had three springs break in 20 miles on engine components that were built by well respected professionals IE: Lloyd Elliot. The engine was driven to the gas station and back and never reached 3K RPM. Every thing was double checked for problems. CC admitted to me that there was a problem with my springs and offered to replace them.

You may see hard proof when you drop a valve, I see hard proof sitting on my kitchen table.

Respectfully you have the right to be skeptical, but the numbers are speaking volumes on this particular issue.
More hard proof here:

I was told American Spring by a reputable source.

Thanks, now to find out where DCX was getting theirs.

I posted this on the SRT-8 boards and was told I was behind in the news. A couple of months ago people doing cam swaps lost motors due to Comp-Cams 918 valve springs.

Well put. Twice would be a coincidence, three times makes me suspicious. We are talking HR cams here, not Pro Stock with 1" valve lifts, over 1,000lbs open pressure, and 9,000+ rpm. Broken springs at this level ought to be rare as hen's teeth.

I've seen at least one of the failures posted as being installed in July 06.

I'm in the same boat as you. LE2s built in July-Aug 06.

All the 918's are blue springs. And I just ordered a set of patriot extreeme springs. My 918's were bought in december and I don't feel like risking a longblock because of a spring. The springs were 290 shipped to my door for springs, titanium retainers, locks, seats, seals. They are 155lbs @1.8", and 390 open IIRC.

Thumbs up Pac 1218

Due to this envaluable information I ordered a set Beehive springs directly from PAC the other day. PAC's sales on the PAC 1218 and 1518 springs will probably be going up now since comp cams beehives are not trustworthy anymore. Thanks for the info folks. Maybee saved my $6400 motor.

I'll even throw in the original box they came in and a Compcams Decal!
