No i didnt just sign up just to bash the LT1, I just signed up cause i just now found the website. I love my car. I gave up a bad *** 5.0 for it. I was just replying to the person's post. The reason it went out is because it was not taken care of. To much money invested in it if it was a POS.

edit/ Why did you put lt1 heads on an lt4? I don't even think you can do that without putting the lt1 manifold on, which would make the whole engine an lt1 (aside from the 4 bolt main)

yea, i chose that block because of the 4-bolt main and i got a heck of a deal on it. $100. I did use my LT1 intake off my car for this motor. I turned the motor about 5800 and it started knocking. I believe it should of turned this without a problem but since the oil did not get changed when it was suppose to that is why it went out. (So i will take the blame for it going out) The only bad thing about my car is when i first got it, it had a 2.73 gear in it, and those dang 5.0's 5-speed cars would leave me off the line, but i would run off and leave them when we raced from 70-up. But that was the days when i was in college, but now i can afford some upgrades.
My 91 Formula 350 isn't the same but it's at 179,000 now.I bought it in 93 and it's always had some type of synthetic oil used but never the same brand, mostly what ever was cheapest at the time.It had 50K on it when I got it and I squeeked out a best 14.03 at Twin cities then at 150k I was only able to get a best of 14.17 out of it.Amazingly it's still using mostly all original untouched parts including the motor ,trans ,rear and A/C compressor but really needs the injectors replaced.

For those of you with over 150k on your original LT1, what oil do you use and what viscosity? How often do you change your oil and what oil filter do you use?
I think that the LT1 likes a slightly thicker oil, so it wants something at the higher end of the 30wt range (like Amsoil, Redline, German Castrol Formula SLX 0w30) or even a 5w40 oil. As the miles get put on, the engine gets looser, so the thicker oils help protect it better. IMO, Mobil 1 is too thin if you drive your car very hard.
I also believe that if you want to get high mileage out of your LT1, don't run a K&N air filter, they let in too much dirt. A paper air filter stops a lot more dirt, and this shows in oil analysis results.
