Which set-up would be louder?

Have a magnaflow cat-back right now. Either looking to get a y pipe with no cats, or shorty headers with cats. Which would be louder?

Well y-pipe plus no cats would be cheaper.Headers and cats will get you more horsepower and a different tone not much louder in most cases. Most shorties come with a y-pipe.If you want louder get headers and an off road pipe.

Mac has an off road pipe,I think there headers are mid-lenght.You can always get headers of your choose and have a off road pipe made with a flange on both sides so you can put your cat back on need be.oh almost forgot you have to get a flange welded on the other side of the cat if you want to put it back on sometime.

I'd say y-pipe without cats would be louder.

You dont even need a aftermarket y-pipe if your just looking for sound. Take off the cats and your gonna get the most out of the sound. Take the muffler off with the cats and you'll be screaming.

Peronsally, the sound of gutted cats does not fare well with my ears... It's way too raspy and it burns your eyes. Keep the cats, get headers.

But to answer your question, gutting the cats would be louder than shorties and cats.

I agree with taking the cats off will make it louder. Gives you a little more hp too. I dont think my car is any louder with headers than what it was with the stock manifolds, just the sound is a little different.

this is what your gonna do like it not...

buy mac's... they are mid length

then pay a shop $20 to make a straight 3" piece of metal pipe..
replace the cat with the straight pipe and put it on with some exhaust clamps ($5)

headers, y pipe with no cat
