Hey guys. This question has been talked about on the LT1 edit board. This was a year or so ago but I think the solution was to advance the timing a few degrees at ver low RPMS < 1500 when the motor is at WOT. But ya got to gave LT1 edit to do that. So in short the hesitation problem is a tunning issue.

I made a stand-off braket for my ICM and my fireball coil since it did not fit in the stock location. The ICM is not about 3" form the head. there is a noticeable gain, but still hesitation. Now I am going to go to radio shack and get some small heat sinks and maybe put them on the ICM. I will return if it works or not.

second, I am going to get the casper electronics TPS "adjuster" by this weekend and see what that does. it is supposed to advance the timming above 70% throttle off idle. summit has it. keep ya posted.

Guys

I tried one of the suggestions today and it helped. I took off my MAF and found it to be coated in dirt and grime. using windex and a q-tip i cleaned it and then wiped off my throttle body blades. id did feel a little better and i truley believe this helped my problem. at this point anything is worth a shot, so give it a try.

It looks like you guys' hesitation is a compounded result of several different factors. No simple fix. Keep us posted.

I started thinking that it could be timing-rekated. The reason? During loss of power at low RPMs, flooring the accelerator causes popping / missfire noises from the engine. I think advancing timing may just be the thing that we need.

The question, though, is why it's so inconsistent? Some sensor is sending incorrect data to PCM. Now, what is responsible for that? That's the million dollar question.

I also am leaning towards ICM. Definitely have to do something about heat absorption there.

Wow 7 pgs already. Ive been out on the topic for a few days because I just blew my engine in my Dodge so I guess my Camaro's problem will be put on hold for now...BUT

For my 94 A4, yes it does have some difficulity at idle. I am also experiencing the "popping" when I mash on the pedel. It will pop a few times before it kicks in. Also, if I am in gear at a light when the car is hot over 190 thats when the surging will occur. When I put the car in neutral everything seems to settle down but I can still hear the RPMs go up and then back down almost seems like something (ECU?) is telling it to "Click" on to raise the RPM level slightly then put it back to normal.

For now, still trying to search out this little bugger...

P.S. I changed one of my O2's then changed the fuel filter, no vaccume leaks in the elbow...

I have that same problem, but its not what you think. Its the transmission. I have my trans go bad a few weeks ago from overheating. I was running my car pretty hard one day against some stangs(they didnt stand a chance!) and it was like 95 degrees outside. It starts revving really high and if you put it in neutral and give it a lil gas it goes down. I check my trans fluid and it said it was way hot. I'm thinkin I need a trans cooler or some better fluid.

If you have popping under 2000 rpm then try swapping the MAP sensor (or the harness might be loose or bad), MAF sensor, or TPS sensor.

I had a popping last year that was my MAP harness. It came loose.

Swap with a friend before you go buy one.

Do any of you have broken MAP sensor harness clips?

If it slips out it will cause your car to run badly in closed loop.

This is why I love my 3.8. But seriously my friend has a 95 that has a serious stutter at just about any rpms. but its more pronounced at below 1500 in high gear. I've also noticed that when the car sits at idle there is a slight, and competly random pop from the exaust, every few seconds, that you can hear and feel. Its really too bad the car was really fast. but now its kind of dissapointing. Also his voltmeter sits right on the edge of the red and his idle goes from 1000-1500. please help.
