finding a new power source for the MAF sensor
finding a new power source for the MAF sensor
okay, i have a program (obdII scanner for a laptop) as of recently and learned that my MAF sensor wasnt reading. so i checked the power source to the Maf and got nothing. now i understand that this is a fairly common thing with our cars. the wire gets cracked etc. okay, instead of me trying to take apart all of the wiring harness and digging into the dash to follow that wire back, does anyone know of another way to wire it to power through another source? also, another thing that would help if someone knows, where the hell does it end up at under the dash there. i assume it comes in with the crap load of mixed wires just right above and behind my clutch (through the firewall). i was just curious as to what/where it hooks up to make it easier to find (thats even if i need to find it). i went ahead and unplugged it for now. but this is something i'd like to fix to shut off that damns SES light. i'm not really making enough power right now for it to matter if its unplugged.
-as far as the power source is concerned, i dont really care if it hooks up to its original power source unless it is necessary.
thanks for the help guys.

Exactly which fuse the MAF power supply comes from seems to vary from year to year. If you look at Shoebox's online 1995 wiring diagrams, it shows the pink wire comes from Fuse #5 in the dash. That circuit also feeds the PCM +12V switched power on pins B30 and D3, the theft deterent module, and the fuel pump relay. If all the other devices are working, the break has to be past the point where the wires seperate.
Easiest thing to do would be to run a new wire from that fuse to the MAF. You might also want to PM "shoebox".... he knows a little more about how that wire is routed through the harness. You will also have to check the wiring diagram for your specific year car.
You did check the pink wire, at the MAF harness connector correctly? ... ignition key in the "on position", probe with the meter's red lead on the pink wire terminal, and the black wire to a GOOD ground? You did check that the black/white wire in the MAF harness connector was a GOOD ground?

i didnt check the ground wire. ill jump on top of that in the next few minutes. however, i did check the pink one correctly with a good ground (even tested it on a few other wires) w/ no power reading at all. i'm not having any other problems. i think i would notice something wrong if the pump relay was bad. no theft deterent system on my car (unless the chip on the key counts). also, checked all the fuses. i checked them all because i was uncertain at the time which one to check. anyways, theyre all good. i imagine ill just end up doing some rewiring. ill probably try to get a hold of shoebox though. thanks for the help.

Looking in a 96 manual, the fuse for the MAF is the "ENG SENSOR" fuse (10) in the underhood electrical center. I would think the 97 would be the same being as they are both OBD-II. The point in the main harness at which the splice is suppose to be, is 22 cm from the transmission breakout (per the book, if that will help).
