Re: Comp R's

I think it's definetly the clips themself's that are at fault. They become unstable and unable to do there job at sustained RPM's and inproper lash setting. Thus, the loose, bouncing around and damaged result.

Re: Comp R's

I hav a set but after reading this, I am thinking of reusing my stock L98 lifters. Would I be better off cleaning my old (85K) ones? My cam maxes out at 560 lift with VERY FEW runs to 6500. Usually dyno track only. Its mostly highway driven.

Just re-freshed a guy's World products Hardcore 427 all aluminum small block, half the lifter clips were in the oil pan...dont know if they were comp R's or not, but they had that same thin little retainer.

Re: Comp R's

I decided not to take any chances. I went and bought the GM lifters 2nd design for my latest build up. Not going to spin past 6200 with my XFI 218 cam and 1.6rr. The guys around here with high acceleration lift cams are running stock roller lifters with no problems. However they are shifting at or before the 6000 mark.

Re: Comp R's

Yea. I decided to sell my comp R's and clean out my old 85K ones, since they did work perfect with the 219 cam all the way to 7000K (Only went up that high twice) But I did find a cracked one which had a crack from the bottom of the roller to the center pin of the roller. I dunno how long its been like this. I went to summit yesterday and bought 1 of their $6.50 replacement ones which are identical

Re: Comp R's

my car has been sitting all winter. I went ahead and started it up today and the passenger side valve cover was clacking like crazy. It sounds like only one is either not properly tightened down or maybe I finally have a collapsed lifter like everyone else here. These lifters have about 2000 miles on them. I guess I will talk comp into getting me a new set and then sell them on ebay and get some morels. What a pain.

Some of these replys are just baffling to say the least. Question of the century... Why in hell would a, "stronger clip" be required when it plays absolutely no roll in the normal operation of the valve train other that to keep the plungers in place when there is no load on them?

Re: Comp R's

Wow, I haven't been here for some time, but yes I've seen a few fail, mine failed right out of the box I didn't even notice it that much except I started noticing power loss past 6k rpm, so I went to re-adjust my lifters (0-lash) when I would loosen the lifters the pushrods got free right away, but one of them I kept loosening the nut and the pushrod wouldn't looen up, just kept pumping up, at that point I knew it

Do you think that is the fault of the lifter or your zero lash setting?
