Lightbulb Anyone Have LTCC "Issues?"

Just curious, I haven't personally toyed with the setup myself, however a customer has converted. He went to do a lil dyno tuning yesterday @ Atlanta Chassis Dyno, and ended up with a bit of a problem. It would appear his stuff is cutting out consistently at 6300 & dropping a cylinder or two, but it recovers shortly thereafter...

The A/F data I don't have yet, but was supposedly dead on @ 13:1 down low & gradually got a lil fatter as engine speed increased.

Funkyness... the HP curve is rising steeply & suddenly drops ~90rwhp in 100rpm, but quickly recovers, pulls hard again, and gains 60rwhp back. At the very end it loses 10, then picks the 10 back up, and then falls off LOL.

Car's a 94 m6 w/ a 355, LT1 topend, HR cam, pump gas, full exhaust & a 12bolt.

Graph

So, any LTCC guys ever experienced anything like that? I don't have the car here in CLT, but I've been in it before tuning and I recall a lil hesitation up top, which most likely was this dip. Before anyone asks, the dip occurs at the same time, regardless of timing or fuel changes.

Thx!

-Phil

I am fully aware of this car. I have to shake a finger at ACD to try and tune the car the way it was done. They should have rescheduled. We harp about dyno tuning being done a certain way and they did not come through in my opinion. It is an LTCC/LS1 Coil issue, dont know. But steps to identify fueling were not done to satisfy myself. Why not take 15 minutes and hook up the FP gauge to rule that out. That is a 'full service' place, they have the tools.

No one that I know of has had the problem with the LTCC set up. Owner may have mentioned my car having problems but that was pre LTCC set up. I need to go back and retune my car now....

AFR is not verified in any way from my discussion with car owner.

Needless to say, it is a stout machine. I hope to be able to use your services in the future to build me a 'bean buster.

What plug wires is he running? I remember hearing some people running MSD wires having issues. Unfortunately I do not rev my car that high but I have not had an issue to date with my LTCC box. Have you tried contacting Bob?

Shon,

He's actually got my new racetronix FP setup since I didnt need it just yet. I was told a PSI # though on the phone.. so I thought they were looking at FP...

Argh, it's always something LOL

IDOXLR8,

Isn't my car, I haven't tried yet, but will likely do that this afternoon. Quite honestly I don't recall what wires Russ is running. I didn't really think of them since it seems to work fine up until 6300 every time. The tq is a lil low though, so perhaps something is going on through the whole range. Do you recall what issues the MSD wires were supposedly causing?

Thanks!

I run my LTCC equipped car up to 7K and don't see that behavior.
I just put in new heads and hyd roller cam motions kit and it races cleanly to the 7K mark.
I'm running the taylor cut to fit wires with the opti boot ends on the coils.
THanks Turbo Bob for the ignition solution!

OH, My conversation with him stated no FP gauge on the car, said it was too tough to put it on there. Due to coil location.

Yeah that Racetronix piece was pretty swift, they had it back in the car in no time.

It is always something, that is for sure....

InjectedSS had problems with his....might want to do a search regarding the LTCC and his name.

Apparently it was a problem that was common with people using MSD 8.5's...not sure of the details.

Thx for the other link, he's running taylor's however.

It seems that there may be a slight short in it, so for now I believe he's going to go back to the opti. Need to do something LOL, I want a 430 SAE/450 STD rw dyno through a 12bolt & full exh w/ nothing but heads & a HR

Ahh well, I suppose we'll just have to see if going back to the opti solves the problems

Thx

Follow up:
I think it might be a short somewhere, this is just my speculation based on conversation with him last night after some donuts....

Yep, thats what I was told .

Hard left turns & it cut out.. once it shut off. Claims he wiggled some wires around & it ran again & would now turn to approximately 6600rpm before cutting out again.

Oh well, looks like a cool setup, and id like to try one personally, but I dunno if its worth it for most simple H/C setups .
