Bad injector, with no code? And a few other questions, kinda long.

Hey guys, I just got this 97 Z28 A4 a month ago, and it's been kind of a PITA.

I won't bore you with the gory details, but here is the latest problem:

I was getting an SES code 300, so i changed the plugs and wires (Autolite 103 and MSD 8.5mm wires) and the fuel filter. Code 300 goes away. Code 302 pops up two days later. I've looked over the wiring harness to injector 2 and don't see any damage to it, but if an injector was bad, wouldn't that throw a code itself? I get no other codes, the car runs fine too, but the light is annoying. The idle is kinda rough, but not as bad as before I changed the fuel filter.

I haven't sprayed it yet (stupid MSD 6AL went out after one start) and I'm hesitant to if I'm having a misfire. I may pull the fuel rail this weekend and swap the injector with another hole to see if it follows the injector. But if I SHOULD be getting a separate injector code I won't.

If this fixes it, should I just get a new injector or have the old one cleaned somehow? I've ran 3 bottles of cleaner thru it with no improvment. The car has 51000 miles. And a new water pump, if anyone cares.

Next, I've never sprayed an auto car before, my two nitrous cars were both manuals. Am I gonna toast the converter if I do?

Last question, how can I prevent my repaired MSD from frying again? Is there any trick to these particular cars? I've used an MSD 6 in 7 of my previous vehicles with no problems. Why this one?

The "code" is only set by a check of the electric circuitry. If the PCM sees the correct current flow to the injector, it assumes the injector is working. If the injector is faulty for reasons other than electrical (solenoid) problems, it won't set a code. Could be plugged, stuck, leaking, etc and not set a code.

Thanks Fred, good to know. Is there any way to tell by looking at an injector if it's clogged, or maybe an easy way to clean them once removed from the car?
Chem-Dip anyone?
