Re: 97 SS M6 dyno numbers...

The claims involved are unsubstantiated...period.

Headers can only free up horsepower that already existed in the engine. A stock 350 in a 97 has, at max, 305-310 horsepower at the flywheel. What we experience when we see 260-265 RWHP is the effect of the various pulleys, waterpump, alternator, air conditioner, vacuum pumps (brakes, power steering), and the conversion of rotational mass spinning in one orbit (longitudinal to the direction of the vehicle (and crankshaft) to another plane (the wheels).

A great set of headers typically can free up to 10-15% of the power at the engine, by creating some additional scavenging at the collectors. Otherwise, they only reduce/eliminate the backpressure that is holding the engine back.

Sorry, this audience member is unimpressed.

Remember, this board is populated by a bunch of gearheads. Half that comes out of their mouth is BS, the other half you should always doubt.

Lotus did some design work. They were built by,: "The LT5s were built by Mercury Marine in Oklahoma and assembled into the ZR-1 vehicle at Bowling Green." From the web site YOU posted.
