Can I put a older 700R4 in my 94 Z28?
My 4L60E has 3-4 gears gone. I plan on having it rebuilt in a few months or just replacing it with a full race built 4L60E, I cant afford to do that just yet. My brother however has a older 700R4 thats in perfect working order just sitting in his garage that I can have to atleast use untill I get my 4L60E rebuilt, but I dont have a clue what I have to do to swap it in of if it even will. I know the 4L60E is a newer electronic version of the 700R4 but dont know whats different. Some one clue me in please. Also is there anyone on this site that rebuilds transmissions? I do eventually have to get this 4L60E gone through.

I don't see why you couldn't. They should have the same bell housings, as I do believe the 4L60E is just an electronic version of the 700R4. Although the computer may be finicky about it.
Re: Can I put a older 700R4 in my 94 Z28?
I know physically it will bolt up and functionally it will work. You will have to rig up a TV (throttle valve) cable that kicks the tranny down (done elctronically on the 4l60E) it just connect to the throttle arm on your TB and runs down into the transmission. The clucth lockup can be done hydraulically (most aftermarket trannys will do this) or you can wire up a circuit that locks up the tranny in 4th gear with a switch and some wires.
The only problem you will run into is the trouble codes the pcm may throw but you can have those deleted maybe if you get a pcm reprogram.
Is yours OBD1 or 2?

Re: Can I put a older 700R4 in my 94 Z28?
yes and it will shift automatically on its own anyways even if its not hooked to a computer. what they mean by manual valve body is if you start in 1st gear th etranny will hold in 1st gear until you shift up or it blows up
If you put the car in D and start from 0 mph it will shift fine through 1-2-3 and 4 if you are in Overdrive.

Did you actually come to an understanding of what was being said above? You need the TV cable for it to automatically kick down. I guess you could put it in drive and manually drop it down to pass someone and then put it back into drive again. But either way just get it rebuild right and then you don't have to worry about it.
Re: Can I put a older 700R4 in my 94 Z28?
Contrary to popular belief the TV is NOT A KICKDOWN CABLE.
If you dont hook yours up and misunderstand its use you will burn out your
tranny.
The TV cable moves the throttle valve piston in the valve body of the tranny and controls not only kickdown but overall shift points and the whole way your tranny behaves. This is why GM and about 100 other tranny sites all stress and have numerous diagrams about TV cable adjustment after an install.
If your TV cable is not hooked up right you will experience stacked shifts which are not really seperate feeling and your shifts will feel sluggish like your tranny is slipping. This will cause your tranny to run hotter than desired and heat is a trannys worst enemy.

im leaning towards doing this on my car. from what ive found a 93 tb has a tv provision since the 4l60 is basically a 700r4 also. i found a write up someplace about how to trick the ecu by jumpering some wires.
for me i bought this car with 105k on it for $1500 and 2 months later i lost reverse but all my forward gears work. and i just cant get a 94 v8 4l60e for the price i can get a 700r4 at pull a part. its $600-900 vs $55 at pull a part. hell if i could i would remove the opti and install a hei. i mean i could but i dont want to go carb. and yes the tv= throttle valve not kickdown and ive seen trannys burn up without it hooked up.its crucial. i just want my car back on the road and i cant afford a t56 swap. aww the joys of being an unemployed mechanic
found this on here if anyone is lookn for info on the 4l60e
https://www.camaroz28.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=476780
and this too in regards to the 93 ecu and tb, problem is 93 is speed density but im pretty sure the tb can be used to get the tv cable
