A properly rebuilt 700R4 will include parts from the updated 4L60E.
They are essentially the same transmission except for the electronic valvebody but since the 4L60E was built later it got improvements.
The trick is to actually use a shop that can build them well. Many will claim they can few actually do. Most shops will struggle to keep one alive in a 12 second car, others can keep them alive in a 9 second car.
Some incompetent shops will tell you a manual valvebody 700R4 is the ticket to keep one alive in an 11 second b-body but mine is a nothing fancy 4L60E from pro-built.net that is 8 years old.
The rebuild before this one was a large local tranny shop and it lasted barely a year behind a couple hundred HP less than the car has now.

The 700 and the 4L60E can both be built to be equal in strength. Keep in mind that '93 F-Bodies came with 700's (4L60). '94 was the first year for the E. To put a 700 in a '94 you'd have to swap to a '93 style throttle body that has a pivot for the TV cable. You'll also need a TV cable bracket, and obviously a '93 LT1 specific TV cable. You'd also have to figure out your wiring to make the TCC operable in a 700. I usually suggest 700's for people doing 6 speed swaps, but the brackets, and cables are getting hard to get...Even from GM. The nice part about the 4L60E is it's tuneability through the computer. As far as how much abuse they'll take... I can only speak from my experiences. I have a '60E that's been in the 9's for 7 years, in a Procharged and nitroused 3600# '98 Firebird. While that's cool, I'm still a little more impressed in one I've got in a 4200# Impala SS with a fogger that's running 10.20's @ 133 MPH with 1.33 60 ft. times. Cutting those 60 times with 4200#'s is hard on a transmission...LOL Fastest 700 I have is running 10.50's in a LT1 converter Mazda RX7 on spray.
