Is a 700R4 just as strong as a 4L60E
4L60e is basically a 700r4, but with an eletronic valve body i think. I know they have electronics and that is about the only difference. I have a friend running over 500 hp on his 4l60e and it holds just fine, so I dont see why a 700r4 would be any different.
So besides the electronic's you could bolt parts from a 700 into a 4L60E? My 4L60E is on its way out and I havent had luck with it shifting so I have a 700R4 I want to rebuild so I dont have to worroy about the stall size.
500 horse on a stock or near stock 700 no friggin way. I have problems with my measly 380 rwhp eating 700s. I finally gave up and bought a Built one (netgearhead.com) The 700s are also very dependant on your Throttle cable settings , a wrong throttle cable adjustment can do damage quick. I would build the 4L60e up.
so if the 700R4's and 4L60E are the same why wont it handle the power?I am probally putting out 400-425 rwhp now and my trans lasted 7months getting beat(I mean beat on hard) on daily, stock rebuild.I am thinking of upgrading a few parts to make it stronger. The reason I dont want to go back to the 4L60E is the car dont want to shift when using slicks at the track.I am going to put my heads and cam in soon so I think that would put me close to the 500rwhp mark
I dont plan on one lasting over a year acutally if they last a year I would be happay
Just have it rebuilt every winter would be fine for me.

From my understanding, the 4L60/E & 700R4 are SIMILAR transmissions, but not the same! They share many of the same parts. The 4L60E is an electronic version of a 4L60 which is a beffier version of the 700R4. 93 Z's & TA's had either 700R4's or 4L60's & 94 & newer are all 4L60E's. I can't remeber which parts are beefier, but I think it's the clutch drums or something like that....but the 4L60/E's are definately stronger then 700's & 200's.
If you were to take an use the latest HD parts available in both units, the 700r4 should be slightly stronger due to the "cast iron" valve body acting as a "girdle". TH400's lose some of their strength if using an "aluminum" valve body. With what is available, I would use whatever the vehicle came with.
