2nd, I want to relay back to everyone to keep it up & spread the
word. Though I didn't expect it to happen this fast (shocked wouldn't be too strong a word), this IS creating a buzz at GM, and word is making it's way through the system.

I have a question....Sorry if it was posted and I Missed it, but what about the portfolio that was presented to GM by Popular Hot Rodding 2003 SEMA. It contained a bunch of positive e-mails about Kris Horton's take on a fifth gen Camaro.
How much impact did that have on Camaro's future?

I have posted it on the Swedish Camaro Forum
http://forum.camaro.nu
for those of you that can read Swedish.

So now it is an international matter, I got my response and it looked pretty much like the others. The guy answering said:

We apologize for the disappointment expressed in your email and want you to know that a number of Chevrolet Camaro owners and enthusiasts have expressed their fondness for this vehicle.

So apparently they have noticed the storm of messages arriving.

"As the proud owner of a 30th Anniversary '97 Camaro, it concerns me greatly that there is doubt whether this great nameplate will return. I am 24, have already owned 3 Camaros, and would love nothing more than to be able to purchase a new one. Camaros have fueled my automotive love since I was very young, and it is a shame to see Ford be able to produce a new, modern, relevant-to-today's-market Mustang, while it appears Chevy gave up. Pontiac may be GM's "performance" division, but Chevy is as American as baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, and well, to steal an old ad slogan, Chevrolet. Chevrolet deserves a 2+2, rear wheel drive performance car named Camaro. Heritage is something that should not be ignored. Should GM never build another Camaro, I will probably never buy a new GM product, and will instead buy classic Camaros, and drive cheaper used cars every day. The meaning of Camaro runs that deep...I would appreciate this being forwarded to Bob Lutz, Product Chairman."

Here's mine...don't know how to put it any better...

And here is the lovely, impersonalized, homogonized response I received back...

"Dear Mr. Emmett,

Thank you for contacting the Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center. We apologize for the disappointment expressed in your e-mail and want you to know that a number of Chevrolet Camaro owners and enthusiasts have expressed their fondness for this vehicle. However, on September 25, 2001 General Motors Corporation announced that 2002 would be the last model year for the Chevrolet Camaro. Due to the decrease in demand for the sport segments, this decision was unavoidable. We appreciate your feedback and have documented your comments under file #1-199207816 and the appropriate departments review all files.

If you should need to contact us in the future, simply reply to this message or call our Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center at 1-800-222-1020 and refer to file #1-199207816. Customer Relationship Managers are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., Eastern Time.

Again, thank you for contacting Chevrolet.

Sincerely,

Kathy Butler

I think its interesting she claims that 2002 would be the "last model year" when it was actually announced the product would be "put on hiatus," or whatever term they used. I also find it interesting that while I claim that the Mustang has been able to re-do itself, she claims a "decreased demand in the sport segment" is what prompted the cancellation. Granted, this is somewhat true, but I think we have all learned more than that...

I'll tell ya, if this is the kind of stuff they send out to Joe-Camaro-Lover, who has no idea what actually is going on, they're making a lot of people upset over this "cancelled" car. We were told hiatus, not cancellation...

Just thought I'd share...at least I do give Chevy credit for commenting back, and fast too!

I sent a letter this morning and this is what they replied with:

<<<
Dear Mr. Stone,

Thank you for contacting the Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center. I
appreciate you taking the time to write us in regards to your request in
bring back the Camaro.

I apologize for the disappointment expressed in your email and want you
to know that a number of Chevrolet Camaro owners and enthusiasts have
expressed their fondness for this vehicle.

However, on September 25, 2001 General Motors Corporation announced
that 2002 would be the last model year for the Chevrolet Camaro. Due to
the decrease in demand for the sport segments, this decision was
unavoidable.

Although Camaro has always had focused appeal, Chevy will continue the
tradition of providing performance vehicles with high value.

GM will continue to support the millions of Camaro owners with
replacement parts, reproduction parts, accessories and technical support
through its Service Parts Organization.

I apologize, but at this time, no product has been assigned to the
plant after that date, but GM continues to study possible options. Nothing
has changed concerning GM's production plans for the Camaro.

I have documented your appeal in Service Request #1-199386408 and again
I appreciate the time you have taken to let us know how you feel
regarding the Camaro and I will be sure to document this for you. This will
be internally reviewed.

If you should need to contact us in the future, simply reply to this
message or call our Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center at
1-800-222-1020. Customer Relationship Managers are available Monday through Friday
from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., Eastern Time.

Again, thank you for contacting Chevrolet.

Sincerely,

Sounds pretty good to me.
They replied very promptly.

Did they ask anything specific to your Camaro question, or was it more of a "Did we solve your problem for you?" type of thing?

I wonder if it depends on who receives your letter. I'm sure their are quite a few customer service reps that work their that really arent into cars and just send you back the standard form letter while their are also a few enthusiasts who get excited about inquiries and try to add a little more.

Also, would be nice to email them back and show them where Ford plans on selling 175,000 Mustangs in this reduced demand market.
