Thumbs up

Even though past efforts like this may have comer to naught... the fact is that when another new 'campaign' begins flooding GM with 'build it build it build it' letters... it has to set a few bells ringing upstairs. The fact that we people keep comming back to have another go surely says something to GM's decison makers about the passion people have for this car. The squeaky wheel gets the oil as the saying does. Maybe not everytime... but sometimes that squeaking that won't go away gets under your skin so bad that you just can't ignore it any longer....

i dont mean to be negative but killing a car after 35 years and with no signs of any replacement is discouraging.tons of people sent letters and emails to GM pleading to keep the fbody and nothing was done.

yes i realize once a decision is made it cant be reversed but the indifference about the fbodies demise that GM had is very disturbing.

the firebird and camaro was one of the few cars that made GM stick out from other carmakers.it was affordable and fast with agressive styling.now GM has nothing in that category.

with the exception of the upcoming new vette GM to me is just another carmaker with plain and boring looking vehicles.

some of their models look ok but im not a fan of FWD.BRING ME BACK A MUSCLECAR PLEASE!

Please forward this message to Product Chairman Bob Lutz.

For many years as a child I dreamed of owning a brand new Camaro. On September 25, 2001 I was disheartened to find out that 2002 would be the last and final year for the Camaro.

I plan on graduating college in a few years and I need a reliable vehicle. I need something that is rear wheel drive, has a six speed, and that can haul four people. The new GTO is a nice car, but this does not do it for me. I need something sportier, and something less than $27,000.

I know that the zeta modular vehicle platform will be coming about in a few years. And I how flexible this platform will be. This will make it perfect for the next Camaro, because you can have the GTO be on it, along with many other counterparts from your other fine divisions. This will make the vehicle profitable because you guys will have mass numbers combined, while maintaining a limited production car like Camaro or GTO. You know, give the interior some different pieces, and the exterior some different body panels and WHAM, you have several different cars on the same chassis.

I know that there is a restriction on the Camaro/Firebird name. But it is important to all of us who grew up dreaming about buying a new Third generation Iroc Z, or a Fourth generation Z/28 or SS to have a Fifth generation V-8 Camaro AND Firebird. It must be a Camaro or a firebird for me, a new Chevelle, Monte Carlo, or even the new GTO will not do it for me, it has to be an F-Body.

One last thing I would like to mention is that your cross-town rival Ford has been loyal to their fans by bringing back the T-Bird, and by standing by Mustang fans in the late 80’s by not turning it into the Probe. And another thing, if the coupe market is drying up like some of your officials have stated, then why is the Mustang selling so well? Just thought to think about.

Sincerely,
Andrew XXXX

Response to me...

Thank you for contacting the Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center. We appreciate you taking the time to write us in regards to our discontinuation of our Camaro line. We apologize for the disappointment expressed in your email and want you to know that a number of Chevrolet Camaro owners and enthusiasts have expressed their fondness for this vehicle.

However, on September 25, 2001 General Motors Corporation announced that 2002 would be the last model year for the Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird. Due to the decrease in demand for the sport segments, this decision was unavoidable.

Although Camaro and Firebird have always had focused appeal, both Chevy and Pontiac will continue the tradition of providing performance vehicles with high value.

GM will continue to support the millions of Camaro and Firebird/Trans Am owners with replacement parts, reproduction parts, accessories and technical support through its Service Parts Organization. GM did remain committed to the continued operation of the Ste. Therese, Quebec plant through the term of the Canadian Auto Workers' contract that expired in the fall of 2002.

At this time, no product has been assigned to the plant after that date, but GM continues to study possible options. Nothing has changed concerning GM's production plans for the Camaro and Firebird.

If you should need to contact us in the future, simply reply to this message or call our Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center at 1-800-222-1020. Customer Relationship Managers are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., Eastern Time.

Again, thank you for contacting Chevrolet.

Sincerely,

Glinda

Sent mine:
Dear GM,
I currently have two Camaros and I love them. One is a 95.5 3.8L and the other is a 2000 SS, both are red. The 95 was the first car I ever drove. My brother and I are both Camaro fanatics; we love them. When the Camaro did go on hiatus I was deeply upset and drove with my high beams all day on to mark the end of a 35 year reign of a Mustang stomping legend. But end is the wrong word, as this is a hiatus. Ford thought they won and then decided to supercharge the Cobra as a way of rubbing it in Camaro fans’ faces.
When I graduate from college in 2008, I will be looking for a new car. However, not any car will do and it has to be built by the General. GM needs something to compete with the Mustang, but not anything will do. The Corvette is a great car but it’s out of many people’s price range for the high performing, yet practical car that they desire. The SSR is a nice truck, but it is expensive and doesn’t have the performance that is desired. The GTO is also a nice car, but it is a little pricey and isn’t what I am looking for. This is where a new Chevy pony car would come in. But it can not be any car, it must be a Camaro as nothing else will suffice. It will go head on to the Mustang and continue the long time running, most well known rivalry in the history of the automobile.
In the 1950’s, when, after a short two year run, GM was going to kill the Corvette, Ford brought out the T-bird and saved the Corvette’s life. GM would not let Ford when that war, GM would net let Ford be the better company. It is because of Ford that the Camaro ever was dreamt of. When the Mustang was introduced and with the success of it that followed, GM wanted a piece of the action. Now, Ford has the T-bird and Chevrolet has the Corvette, Ford has the Mustang but Chevrolet does not have the Camaro. GM needs the attitude they had in the Fifty’s and the Sixty’s, the attitude that GM will not bow down to Ford and let Ford win. It is not too late, if GM brings back the Camaro, in its true high performance, best bang-for-the-buck car in existence, ways, GM will win with the Camaro, and only the Camaro.

Sincerely
William Lucas, a Camaro fanatic

I finally got mine together:

Please forward the following message to Product Chairman Bob Lutz.
I am writing this letter to convey my concerns to General Motors and the Chevrolet motor division on my feelings about the Camaro Brand. When I turned 16 and was ready to purchase my first car I only had one vehicle on my mind; The Chevrolet Camaro. At a young age when I first began to notice individual cars on the road the Camaro stuck out to me. The Camaro smooth sexy styling and aggressive performance is enough to drive a teenager wild. Then I realized its rich history. I knew I had to have one. Since my purchase my 1995 Camaro over 5 years ago it has become a member of the family. I will never sell it, only restore it. I truly am a Camaro enthusiast and it now hurts me personally to see that Ford is continually offering the Mustang Brand while GM sits out of the value performance segment. It excites me to see GM returning its aim towards rear wheel drive and powerful efficient V8 power cars. I truly think you hit the head on the nail with the new Corvette. But like the Corvette the Camaro name has become a tradition to many American car fans; one of the quintessential American sports cars. With the new wave of rear wheel drive cars aimed for production towards the end of this decade please keep in mind the importance of the Camaro name. I will be in the market to purchase a new vehicle around 2008. The return of the Camaro name and its traditional formula will greatly determine my choice of purchase. Please don’t force me to buy a Mustang. I have faith GM will do the right thing and continue the rich tradition of Camaro. Thank you for your time.

Sent mine in. Got the same flowery response. But hopefully the numbers will speak louder than the individual e-mails. Fortunately I think someone is actually reading these at it seems, at least in a small section, the response is catered towards the e-mail we sent them.
