I suspect Branden would eat razorblades before stealing anyone's info. No one's done it but just the same, you can't blame Branden for what other people post on his site.

And then there's no berating of the masses for not 'getting it' afterwards.

This isn't intended as a flame because I understand you have to be careful about what you say. Just don't be upset when someone does a better job of disseminating the information.
Yep.

That's one of the perverse things about getting info: The more you get and the closer to things the people who give you information are, the LESS you can come out and say anything untill someone else lets the cat out of the bag.

Then it seems like you're just doing the "Me Too" act. Then like Charlie said, it ends up in magazines.

Don't count on Buick anytime soon regarding Zeta. And, if there is one on the books, it's VERY likey it's not of the North American breed.

As for a "small, rear-wheel drive" chassis. I don't understand why much of this is "news" now, especially when a General Motors executive comes out and says the company wants one on their company owned blog.

I wouldn't say 2009 is the year to get excited. Instead, I'd say a release comng really soon is a very, very good indication on what type of sales volume a small, RWD vehicle could do. I think then, GM goes from their with their decision.

Plus, for those that want a V8 in Pontiac? Retire to a top-level Chevrolet, or a base model Cadillac.

Pontiac changed years ago. The company does not need a V8 to appeal to the masses. What it needs is fresh thinking. I said early last year that Pontiac is GM's Scion fighter, and now it seriously appears to be heading that way.

A V8 + Pontiac is a waste of money and resources. For those that absolutely need a V8, take a look at the Solstice GXP, and imagine that wonderful powertrain in a slew of RWD offerings from GM that range from a hatch to a 5 door sub-compact. Sounds good, doesn't it?

Low weight + V8 power, and a blown or turbo'd 4 cylinder = Reciepe for success that does not break the bank. The reason I purchased my Solstice.

It's a win-win in my book. My previous 3 cars were Pontiacs, my current is a Solstice, my beater is a '99 Grand Am. I've never owned a V8 and have yet to see the reason why.

Yeah, no disrespect intended to the insiders, but at this point I think you could make the case for all of this stuff based directly on published quotes from GM executives.

Now you guys have to tell us the next next big thing

.
The news part Josh, is that this won't merely be a sprinkling of product for Pontiac. This will be the whole enchilada for Pontiac. A whole family of different cool cars which can meet various needs.

And it dashes all the preconcieved notions of what products many thought were coming from Pontiac.

It's news alright, bud.....big news.

Scion fighter? Scion's are cheap trash, i really hope that GM has a better target in mind than that.

Cheap, trendy trash. I agree that Pontiac does not need that garbage, but they need something that appeals to youth, and is fun to drive.

I totally disagree with Josh about the V8 thing. I HAVE to have a V8...that's just the way it's been since I first owned one. The sound puts me in another place in time, and it just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside

1. Epsilon.
2. No idea. Not sure where "Digamma" came from.

Are Scions trash because you don't like them?

They are actually very good cars for the price that's done an outstanding job at attracting youth.

Not a bad package to aim for, though I doubt that's quite where Pontiac is going.

That's going to be Chevrolet's domain. Sure Buick, Pontiac, & Cadillac will also have a V8 or 2 available in their lineup, but Chevy's going to have affordable performance oriented V8s via Impala, Camaro, and Corvette.

Yeah, pretty much. The proper way to read my comment is i think scions are cheap and unspectacular. I use the term trash pretty generically to dismiss things, not necessarily just to denote 'total junk'

Yeah, true. Combine toyota's sterling reputation for reliability with a marketing department with total freedom to do what it takes to attract young / trendy people and it was bound to happen. Scions are just echo's with new sheetmetal and long option lists, they're not popular because of their performance and dynamic driving experience.

Therefore, it just seems like a very low target to aim for in terms of the actual product. Again, Toyota didn't develop new chassis for Scion, they used their existing cheapest platform, built new sheetmetal and put the real money/effort into the marketing department to come up with the option list. A GM equivalent to scion would be slapping new badges and sheetmetal on the cobalt and hhr while offering 20 different floormat and shift **** options and 10 different factory wheels.

Most of this thread seemed pretty positive, with some images of 3-series, G35 type cars except on a budget. I'm picturing a blend of BMW and mazda. This sounded like a great idea and direction for pontiac. But then to minimize such a great idea by calling it a scion fighter? If GM can't fight scion with it's existing compact / sub-compact line up, how is a new RWD line going to help?

1. alrighty. sounds good already.

2. A previous post had a seven-letter word, with six of the letters blanked out. The one letter than wasn't blanked out was the 4th one, it was the letter "A". some people did a quick search and didn't find any Greek letters matching that. I did a slightly more thourough search and found the Greek letter "Digamma", which is the only letter that fits.

not actually the letter "A".. it was an alpha.... which happens to be the 3rd of 6 letters when you spell out digamma in greek

but.. it doesn't mean anything.. there's probably no such thing as digamma
