When he stated the Firebird wasn't going to return everything was fine and dandy. "We have the GTO at least" people would say. Now we have a v8 rwd coupe of some sort and its not going to be a Camaro. I guess that isn't ok anymore? Anyway, it's not really up to us is it? It's like with movies and so many other mediums, if people didn't buy it in the first place they aren't going to make another. We all know the horrible sales, the fact that there were still brand new 2002 Camaros unsold in 2003. The nameplate, while having deep meaning, means nothing in terms of popularity of the car itself if it were built again.
Wrong.

The 4th Gen's unpopularity does not speak for all Camaros, there is much more to the car than the 4th Gen. The Camaro name is one of the most popular and recongnized names/brands of all time. (and it will always be that way) This is a proven and obvious fact. The Camaro has one of the highest enthusaist bases ever, (if not the highest when you consider everything) especially the previous Gens.

NV, read what RP says, I *think* he just might know what he's talking about on that subject.

As for B.L. not wanting to bring back names and make new ones, I wonder what he was thinking when he brought back the GTO? This car is the reason for no Firebird and the GTO is not nearly as know as the Camaro is to the public. Figure it out.

what bothers me....

...is that if there is a possibiltiy that this coupe COULD be named something else. A car really true to the camaro DNA should not be able to be called something else...i.e. chevelle or monte. A new name perhaps but if it is close enough in design to pass as a more conventional mainstream coupe...then the camaro name will be a name in name only.

(yoda voice)
1st gen cues on a GTO does not a camaro make.

well then tell your source that if the name is not Camaro then it WILL be a sales FLOP just as hard as it did when there was no advertising for it and it still sold pretty well.

look at what happened when they renamed the Lumina 4 door the Impala..get what I am saying...

just tell us why you are so sure that Camaro cannot come back??

cus I can tell you if the consumer wants a Camaro then it should be names Camaro, not something that looks like a Camaro but is not.

rmember the Ford Mustang FWD version..the Probe??? see what I am saying..ever see the almost finished product of the Mustang Probe? and it got another name...

Wink

So what? All the article says is that the chevy ZETA variant wont be called a Camaro......

Who says the Camaro will be Zeta? The new Camaro could be a totally different platform.

I thought the Impala was a great selling car?? No, it's not an Impala that us enthusiasts care much for it, but it sells, and that's what counts.

Obviously no one of importance or are from GM because I don't think that they would hire anybody who would use the word "diss".

If there was a two door full size RWD Impala SS (Like the '67 Convertible SS396 in my buddies garage) Id buy one in a heartbeat. Ive always wanted something slightly larger than a Camaro anyways. Like a GTO or Monte Carlo. However, its gotta be RWD, its gotta have a V8 and a manual trans, its gotta have 2 doors, and its gotta be a Chevy. For the past 16 years, that has meant Camaro.

Not that its a bad thing...

I think he was making that point. Lumina sales stunk, but a fresh car with the highly recognizable Impala name sells very well. AKA chevy coupe with bland non-historical name = less sales than coupe with the name Camaro.

Like I've said before, Camaro is in the top 3 recognized and favorite nameplates. I HIGHLY doubt GM would ditch this name. Until RP literally comes out and says so, I truly believe Camaro will be on this coupe. IZ28 made a good point, if fresh names are so important, why is the name GTO on Pontiac's new coupe and not their new direction, a name like G10? Dont believe everything you read and believe only half of what you see......good quote to live by.
