There are 100,000 cars out there for ya Bob, if you've got big enough nards to go after them.
I think ol' Billy Bob is trying to pull a fast one, quite frankly...
What context was this comment made in? It would say a lot to me if he used the word "Camaro" without any mention of it by the interviewer, for instance....
There is also the possibility of an "All Corvettes Are Red"-type scenario here. C5 was full steam ahead in development without GM top brass even knowing it, as the Chevy division did some *ahem* "creative accounting" to supply funding to the project. Perhaps this is why RP kept telling us to read ACAR.

This is something Bob Lutz has said before and many times. I have no reason to doubt it. I'm sure Bob is on top of everything at GM, don't kid yourselves that he's not. Do not expect the Camaro to come back. Do except a Hi performance sedan from Chevy.

BUT, it does get at least annoying the way Mr. Lutz approaches talking about it... he should simply say "no comment", IMO...

I should be getting some word on this soon, but I suspect that Mr. Lutz can be counted as one of the people eager to change the name of the Camaro just as every other car done on his watch is sporting all new names.

Fine coupe then. The fact of the matter is that no CAMARO is coming back as a CAMARO.

When he stated the Firebird wasn't going to return everything was fine and dandy. "We have the GTO at least" people would say. Now we have a v8 rwd coupe of some sort and its not going to be a Camaro. I guess that isn't ok anymore? Anyway, it's not really up to us is it? It's like with movies and so many other mediums, if people didn't buy it in the first place they aren't going to make another. We all know the horrible sales, the fact that there were still brand new 2002 Camaros unsold in 2003. The nameplate, while having deep meaning, means nothing in terms of popularity of the car itself if it were built again.

I disagree with your assesment of the Camaro name. There's plenty posted here as to why Camaro sales took a dive towards the end (due to no small part to a stale design... at least Firebird had multiple front ends over the life of the 4th gen). Pontiac isn't likely to bring Firebird back because they are moving upscale, they have the Solstice, and the market isn't big enough for both Camaro & Firebird.
We'll know soon enough.
