Interesting Kizz--the 74 is one of the most hated GTOs and YET it sold more then 73 and was closer in concept to the first GTO, the 64.

68-73 were pretty big cars, the 74 and 64 were much smaller. I love 69's but really like 74's as well.

Pontiac's purpose was to take the GTO back to it's roots, so it is closer to it's original concept.

The "Judge" so many people seem to want to come back, was seen as a caracture of itself in the early 70s.

Hmm...I've been so busy debating for the pro-war side over in the lounge, I didn't notice this thread that seems to be calling my name.

Well, I'm kinda worn out actually.

Y'all know my opinion.

That's not really an insult. The Cavalier, as a car, is an insult to cars as a whole.

The fact of the matter is.... this new 'GTO' bothers coetti, because if it did'nt he wouldn't even be bothered making a comment about it.

i feel like a single supporter in a sea of haters in regard to the new GTO, but since i have seen the Monaro cruizing on the street i know what a good looking car it is.

The ingredients are already there for it to be a TOP car... it addresses alot of issues that the F-body had, interior quality and overall build quality, when you see one drive by it is impressive !!!

The things that everyone is pissed of about are trivial and could be changed easily... eg hood scoops and dual exhaust which i agree it should have, and is fairly easily done without the fuel tank in the way(for the U.S. market).

What will make this car a success is the power, which i hope Lutz isnt going to use the standard F-body motor and pass it of as a 340HP version, which we know wouldn't take much as the LS1 is underrated as is, it needs to be underrated by the same margin like 340RWHP or more !!!

The second thing is the pricing.... australia sold 4000 Monaros to justify the cost of building it, so i will say it again, price the GTO under what the equivalent Monaro is priced in aussie (they took of the climate control and a few other luxuries anyway), like for example 28-30k USD, then whatch them flock to buy it, and it will establish a huge customer following for when the '05-'06 comes out.

oh and i can't wait to see the new retro stang and how its going to look in the final production version, and price /build quality / power etc... , at the moment everyone has their panties in a knot over the show car and are comparing it to a production car due for the end of the year, why not compare it to the HRT427 which is also a far-out-there show car.

see ford have still got a year or two to slowly change the 05 stang , and these small changes as it moves to a production model will all be negative ones, for sure - roofline taller, add a back seat (but will it be useable) , crush the dreams of those that think the base GT will have 400HP.

In magazine tests here the Monaro with its below f-body power, punched out a genuine 270 KM/H (167mph) , i wonder if that had anything to do with its 'sucked caramel' design.

here is a quote i found, don't know how credible the info is , but sounds promising.

yesterday i was crossing the highway and i heard this really beefy V8 lookd around but didnt see anything, so as i was waitin for the traffic to go by i see a dark blue CV8 and it was just crawling and it sounded so god damn good! i would neva think a holden could sound that good, unless it had something else under the bonnet.

anyway.... as it was goin past i took a good glimpes at it and on the back bumper it had a hige sticker saying "caution left hand drive" and the exhaust tips where the exact same as the one off the new HRT 427 !
i thought i had noticed sumtin different in the inside of the car, the steering wheel was on the OTHER SIDE!!!!

The GTO would be interesting is was going to be priced at $28,000, but it isn't. At $35,000 it is worthy of some Coletti criticism, and it sure looks alot more like a Cavalier than a Corvette.

I don't think it's necessarily the Judge name people want to see revived, I think they just want to see an over-the-top no holds barred unexpected appearance package that's tastefully done and rare enough to be different and desirable. Basically that's what the Judge was, an appearance package, usually being even more stripped-down than non-Judges. I'm all for a low-percentage, wild appearance package.

I'm with you, and I don't see the Judge making a comeback under any circumstances. If it does somehow appear, to me personally it will be a welcome surprise, if only for the unique look.

I hope GM is listening to this one: Decals are a cost-effective way of offering wide variety within the same model car. They have been proven in the past as to giving people a sense of uniqueness on their car among others. You should revive stripes, big, body-length decals, two-tone color schemes, etc. Perfect application for low-percentage special GTO models, just for one example. Same thing could be done with performance oriented trucks or other coupes/sedans. Give us some nice eye candy.

By that logic, Colletti should be criticising his own Cobra as well.

Decals? That's 70's retro. Yuck. There are other ways to do unique models (like my car, for example) that do much more to make their owner feel as though they have a "rare bird". Decals don't cut it for me. Having "1 of 50 with a blue tape stripe" doesn't excite me. I want substance with my special models, or at least a unique color.

A big misconception everyone has...

It does have DUAL Exhaust...

The pipes travel out of the one side of the car, due to the fuel tank being offset on the right hand side...
