It's Official: 2011 Ford Mustang GT has 5.0-liter V8
That's not what I was trying to do. I merely noted the irony. The Genesis coupe is exactly the size you want, yet it's already discounted, and clearly has not been on fire, though I don't think it's a failure, either.
It's also interesting that it's too small for a V8, though I'm sure a tuner could shoehorn an LS3 in just as was done with the Solstice.
To your point, I would not (and did not) say that the size is an advantage. I would say that it appears not to be a disadvantage. Given how well large vehicles have sold in the past, I don't find this surprising. In a country where personal use trucks have been the largest selling 2 seaters (more recently 2+2s), it should not be surprising that people aren't too concerned about large size.

Understood.
But people who like large cars, like them large on the inside too.
As far as 'new car' surge even the 2004 GTO, complete with same side exhaust and flat hood, outsold the 2005 and 2006 models. And that's even after suffering some hold-back late in the model year when people found out about all the changes for 05.
As for the mustang, i think the new engines have been pretty common knowledge since before the redesign even happened. That's had to weigh against its sales numbers. This is not the same as "hp does not sell cars" since we're talking about the exact same car with an upgrade for (presumably) about the same price. Even if you don't really care about HP that much, everybody wants to feel like they got the best value. Especially as it related to resale, what do you think the resale of a 2010 mustang in 5 years compared to the 2011 with the new engines?
Camaro is definitely on a first year surge, amplified by 7 years of no car pent up demand. As already pointed out, even the 2005 mustang had a huge surge in sales with its redesign.

Forgot VVT on the intake and exhaust, wish Ford had that as a feature on the Shelby to spread out that 480tq of awesomeness.
I hear 390tq for the 5.0 and VVT will definetly help with the grunt down low and effciency since VVT can reduce emissions and pumping losses.
That was a neat feature on the Viper with its single cam (I don't know if it included a phaser as well).
Do all the LSx engines feature cam phasing currently?

The L76 has it in the trucks, but not the G8.
I don't think the LS9 or LSA have it either.
Agreed, Ford covered up just enough and the intake cover gives the impression (to me) of the old SHO V6 "bundle of snakes" intake.
And the engine itself doesn't look to terribly big since you can see the frame rails on either side. I wonder what the dressed weight of the engine is? I've been told an unsubstantiated 500+ pounds. Hopefully Ford will see fit to release dimenison and weight figures for the engine.

So I take it your hoping the F5 slows down its sales pace and remains much more exclusive as well as being passed over by the likes of Saleen and Roush, et al?As for me, I think there should be a Mustang in every driveway!
