It's 2007 all over again with Evo. They were very tight lipped about what was done with their GT500, and gave very general mod descriptions like they are doing here. They later admitted the car had drag brakes, seats pulled and a few other weight saving tricks.

Not to mention, and I can't confirm but this stock 011 GT:

Ran a 12.95. Then proceeded to run a 12.81 ,12.78, and 12.77. Car is equipped with the 3.31 gear had 21 miles on the ODO, and one on the base 235/50 18 tires.

Also the Evo Performance bolt on GT, which they have tuned all week but not spilled the beans, ran a 11.65 @ 118.84mph:

Like I said they are tight lipped so on top of the mods listed already in this thread for this car, their could be more on it(who knows). We know they tuned on it more.

Sadly no. I want to see some mags and private owners at the track.

The transmission might be a weak link on the 2011 GT.

The guy that went 12.77 stock said that after about 30 passes the car has developed a howl in every gear.

Hopefully it is just a bad batch of parts/trannys.

Ford automatics have the same reputation that GM rear ends have. Not good.

Bah, for some reason I thought we were talking autos. It's early. My point still stands though, maybe we can take out the "auto" portion.

Hopefully he will track down the problem.

He was running the car hard at the track with 21 miles on it though. I think that might be a factor.

Either way we will see if the problem is common. Hopefully it isn't.

GM has made plenty of great rear ends. Just the 3rd-4th gen 10-bolt is really the only one with a bad reputation (which I don't think is deserved -- it's very light and handles 350rwhp, which is more than any car it came on ever had from the factory, just fine). The larger 10-bolt used in the '78-87 G-body is plenty strong, as is the 9-bolt used in some 3rd gens, not to mention the 12-bolt that was used in many of the '60s-70s muscle cars.

IMO, Ford automatics have a MUCH worse reputation that GM rear ends.

I watched my friend destroy his 10 bolt on his WS6 when it had around 1500 miles on it. And that was launching on street tires(non dr) and in stock form. He had to be towed home from the dragstrip.

Nearly every friend I have had that has tried to race a 10 bolt car has ended up going 12 bolt because the 10 bolt was glass jawed as hell.

When you start getting traction you find the weak points quick.

My 1990 Mustang LX 5.0 didn't have one stock part in the drivetrain. lol

A guy that post on another forum has a video of his 10 bolt letting go on the 1st-2nd shift.

I have maybe 100 passes on street tires on the stock 3.42-geared 10-bolt in my full-weight 325rwhp M6, powershifting on at least half of them. I've also done my share of burnouts, involving 4000-5000rpm clutch dumps. No problems yet!
