"Chevy isn't afraid of Mustang....."
GM, if you reading this, you're losing formerly faithful customers due to your lack of listening to what the market wants. i personally have given up hope and faith in the beancounting culture at GM having not produced a 5th gen fbody. this transam i currently own will be the last GM car i own. i just recently steered my sister into buying a new camry over a malibu maxx due to my dissapointment with GM.
watch the numbers lutz and company..... you're losing market share year-after year with huge inventory surplases because the PUBLIC is pissed off and uninterested in your cars.
if you don't start listening to us toyota will be number one in mere years.

You know. At first, my gut reaction when reading your post was "Ya, but if this person even bought this car new... it was TEN years ago (1994 T/A), and even more likely, it was bought used... not much in this customer for GM."
But then when you said you steered your sister away from a Malibu to get a Camry, it really drives home the point that F-Bodies are worth more to GM then just the simple sales of the F-Body alone.
I know I have brought up the point in the past that a lot of people have that Cavalier, or Sunfire, or Silverado, or Montana sitting in their garage BECAUSE of Camaro or Firebird....
I think this is a legitimate variant on this... and it drives home a nice point.

It's a very good point. If you're known among your friends/family as the "car guy", who are they going to ask when they're looking for a car? You. You get a devoted car enthusiast in a Camaro owner and he'll steer his family towards GM. When a company like GM abandons that guy, he'll steer them over to another option.
I told my gf to buy a Camry when she was looking, Malibu just didn't compete. And I soon followed suit and went to the automaker with the right car at the right price. Her mom wants to buy a car? Ask me. Her friend is buying a car? Ask me.
Guys like us are important to makes like GM in the long term. But short sighted bean counters who's only loyalties lie in stock prices are killing the company, slowly but surely.

Someday (I hope), the CEO's and BOD's of these large firms will figure out that it takes more than stockholders to make a company run for any length of time... CUSTOMERS are SOMETIMES an important part of running a business too.
BTW, GM is certainly not the only management suffering from stockholder-tunnelvision these days.

When we get to enthusiasts or people buying Mustang because of it's looks or name, then naturally all bets are off.

I can honestly see where this guy is coming from, from a consumer point of view. Of course it pisses me off as an enthusiast. But there's more to the auto industry than looking at the forest from the trees.
