"Chevy isn't afraid of Mustang....."
Re: "Chevy isn't afraid of Mustang....."
Funniest and saddest thing i've read to date in the last 3 months.
He's a marketing director, yet he thinks a FWD 4cyl compact like the Cobalt SS and a FWD S/c v6 Imp SS are vying for the same market as a RWD pony car?
Where'd this guy go to school? And where'd GM pick him up from? Under a rock?

A friend here at work and I were just discussing the comment. Yes, it is lame and I believe everything '96 Camaro said above...
However, you'd be amazed how many people will cross-shop the Mustang V6 and the Cobalt. Think about it...$20k give or take a few bucks, same basic features, on the $22k end you have a blown SS that will annihilate a base V6 Mustang, and on the $19k end you have a base SS that will keep up with one. Both are sporty coupes with sticks available.
Remember, the second most common choice of a Mustang owner in the Camaro years was a GRAND AM, not a Camaro. Still a dumb statement to make, but if he went out there and admitted "We're screwed," that wouldn't look good, either.
Cobalt will satisfy some V6 buyers here or there, but obviously will not touch the GT...not that its supposed to. I can see why people are mad, but I can also see GM's side, too.
The simple solution is GM need to get off its a** and show us some signs of life on the F body front, sooner or later...

Re: "Chevy isn't afraid of Mustang....."
Its not about GM making exciting cars
Its not about GM having a few cars to take up certain segments
Its what this guy deems the "answer" to the Mustang.
The answer to the Mustang is the Camaro, and there is no other way around it.
Yeah, the Cobalt SS will appeal to more kids and perhaps with the other perforamnce compacts, could eat away at 6cyl Mustang sales, but the TRUE answer to the Mustang, is Camaro.

JMHO.
JMHO.
Cobalt SS great car...not a Mustang/Camaro.

OK, that calms me down slighty... but not really.

I have some very scary news for all of you.
Do you guys know who Jim Campbell is? I can't believe that no one picked up on this! He is the previous brand manager for Camaro/Corvette/Firebird. He was RP's boss. He was one of the people in charge of defining and marketing the 4th gen Camaro. I have spoken to him at various times, while he was Camaro's brand manager.
VERY SCARY!!!!!!!!!!
Regarding the Monte Carlo statement, there is a kabal of people at GM (luckily not at the VERY TOP - more like misinformed middle management - Ummmm what's a Camaro anyway? It's a two door isn't it?)
, that believe a RWD Monte Carlo type car (the Chevy Zeta coupe), would make the perfect Camaro.
He seems to have as much interest in the Camaro now.....as he had while he was running the program.

Re: "Chevy isn't afraid of Mustang....."
there was a brand manager for the 4th gen camaro? lmao! could have fooled me!
This reminds me of what someone else said.. GM seems to inheret all of Toyota's weakness's (boring cars) with none of its strengths.

But, like said, in and of itself, the statement is pretty funny...
