Unfortunately - and maybe I'm wrong, but I'd doubt it - I don't think he was being coy. I think he was being honest with his view. I'm just surprise he didn't throw any trucks into the mix, as proof of having the Mustang segment "covered".

Maybe somebody should do an audit of his bank accounts to see if he got a check recently from Ford.

But Cobalt and Monte Carlo being the answers for the Mustang...I've heard just about everything now.

I feel embarrassed for Chevrolet...what a sorry, sorry situation. No wonder the 4th gen Camaro/Firebird failed...

Wow, I think that sums it up......just wow. You've gotta be joking. Yet another example of a very detatched GM. Camaro and M*stang guys will at least get a laugh out of this, somewhat.

That guy better have been seriously trying to side-step saying anything about the Camaro. If not, he should not have a job with GM or anything to do with Chevrolet. If it was me running GM, every employee of each division would have to either be an enthusiast of the divison or have a clear knowledge of it and it's history, because people, this is exactly the kind of thing that happens when this isn't followed. Does he not have an e-mail?

I think we need to look at this from a non-enthusiast's point of view.

I think this was pointed out already, but there are buyers who probally would cross shop a Cobalt SS with a base Mustang. An SS Cobalt would cost around $23K with the blower. I can realistically see where someone might consider this over a $25K Mustang GT or a $20K base Mustang.

On the Monte Carlo, I got to agree. It did come across as a bonehead statement.

He probally could have worded it alot better, and leave the NASCAR kudos off.

Yeah, I did a hearty LOL on that one too when I read it. One can only hope that the internet somehow masked some intended sarcasm in what he said. For example, if he said it while rolling his eyes, or winked when he said it.

I don't see that. Really I don't. Even IF a person is going to cross shop a hopped up FWD econobox with a Mustang they most likely wouldn't be considering the base model to begin with as performance would be at least some what of a desired trait. And even then why would they pay 23k for the slower Cobalt SS when the SRT-4 is out there? If you say looks it wouldn't be that much to think a person would shell out the extra 2 grand and get a "striped down" GT. But if that's GMs marketing strategy with this car i.e. attempting to steal sales away from the base model Mustang with the SS Cobalt I think they are first off missing who the target buyer for the base model Mustang is(women who are putting style over substance in the first place and likely wouldn't look at a musclebound Cobalt even with a sideways glance. Secondly they are missing the fact something as cheap and faster and with more street credit is already on the market and even that isn't going to put much of if any dent in the sales of the Mustang GT.

Nope Chevy still doesn't have anything to address the Mustang. They are hitting all around it but not right at it like they should. But then again it's not just them. I'm still ticked at DCx for not having a hemi powered pony car out by now.

Guy, you know how pro-GM I am, and you know I have probably twisted this every sincle way possible...but its not working.
As I do like the idea of a V8 FWD Monte, and I LOVE the Cobalt SS...they are neither a Camaro by any streatch of the imagination.
They might take up certain segments, as in 300hp V8 coupe, or the V6/4cy SC combo...but I dont think that Mr.Ford is shaking in his boots.
He would with a Camaro....
And to think this guy used to run the show....Please...I just ate.
