Now granted most even semi-enthusiasts are going to know what it is when they see it, but I would wager that any casual non-enthusiast is going to recognize a VEtte before they recognize an obscure, even if legendary, Le Mans racer from the 60s.

That's a great point in the name arguement.

I've always thought that if they weren't going ot pay to get the GT40 name back, they should have gone with GT41 or GT50 ir something other than just "GT"

What this fails to recognize is the fact that Corvette has the most recognizable name in the industry relative to sports cars.

Corvette IS the name to use. Nothing else in North America carrys the same "oooomph" behind the name.

I can't agree considering all American automakers, however, as for GM, I do agree.

I guess you think it is "Mustang". Not quite.

Fortunately you don't know what I think...so stop trying to read my mind

Specifically what am I enlightening you to? And why do you have such a problem with my statement (and me apparently)?

The reason being is that there were some studies/surveys done (in whatever way), the result of which was that Corvette name was the most recognizable.

It does not mean that every individual will recognize Corvette as first, but on the average it is.

That's the point.

What, in your opinion, is the most recognizable car? Just curious.

Ah, and this is where I think Sneaky Neil is confused by my post, I answered the second part of PacerX's statement, not the first...

I know the Corvette is the most recognized American sports car name with Mustang right on its heals. But I was referring to the second statement about "Nothing else in North America carrys the same "oooomph" behind the name." which is what I specifically quoted. I think that's true of GM's brand, but not of all North American manufacturers.

Personally, as far as "oooomph" goes, I think the 427 Shelby Cobra is the "oooomph" leader, but that's just my opinion. Perhaps we can get an "oooomph" poll going

This is exactly what I mean though and Big Als Z was making my point also. People will recognize it as a Corvette, but they see those all the time. It really doesn't make people go "WOW, WTH was that!" or "That's a really cool looking car!" etc...my thinking is that they'll most likely say, "That's a nice Vette" but not realize that it's anything more than "just a Vette". The exotic market is, IMO, mostly about uniqueness.

Exactly, which is why I said earilier that I hope they destinguish it in a unique way which won't be easily copied by a body kit and paint job.

I don't really have a problem with you except that I know you are a huge Ford fan and that you like to take jabs at just about everything that GM does. It is not done in an overly obvious way but is done in a subtle way to not attract too much attention. No big deal. I just like to call you on things from time to time, it does make things more interesting.

Sounds good to me. I'm definitely a Ford fan, but I'm pretty much open to any car worthy of praise, Camaros and other GM products included. I think my biggest problem on forums like this is that I'm not articulate enough to bring my ideas off softly or clearly enough for people to not be offended.
