Ok, like I said, I thought only SVT dealers were getting them, but it's good to know others will also. I'll try to find more on the profit topic. I know I read somewhere that it was going to make a profit.

and here in NJ, Downs Ford has at least 1 GT. I talked to the owner of the dealership saturday night. He said the car is insane. They arent gunna sell it.
Just because you hate Ford doesn't mean I'll jump on ya! lol We may disagree on a lot of things, but that's why we're here on the forums, to share information and opinions. You're right, the GT is definitely a halo car. I don't think anyone has questioned that. Ford is pretty open about it. Lot of the technology for this car is being filtered down to other vehicles (SVT for sure). The program itself has helped Ford find flaws in their 5.4L engine block (and correct them) which will help them save money on repairs. I'll see what I can find on the profit issue. I'm almost positive I read awhile back that it was making profit.

I think the technology of what went into the GT will be used in the upcoming L and Cobra, but not the engine. Hot Rod did a whole review, as did PHR and Car Craft, and the engine itself would be some 30 grand added to the car. And thats just the engine, not to mention suspension, trans, etc etc.
I think the technology as far as supercharging, fuel mapping, and other things they did to improve on the 5.4 will be used on the 4.6 and the L's 5.4. I dont expect to see the very same GT motor betweent he fenders of the L or Cobra.

No, I don't expect to see the same exact engine, but I do expect to see the same block and internals. One thing a lot of people on this forum don't know is that Ford is using a special aluminum alloy on the GT block that is 20% stronger than the current 5.4L. That with design corrections for vibration and strength...I expect to see these kinds of things come out on more of their cars and trucks.

http://charleston.net/stories/011104/aut_11fordgt.shtml You'll have to register to read it, but that's one of the articles saying that the GT will make a profit, though small. It's not the article I saw, I just can't remember where I read it I also read that dealers would not be allowed floor plan for this car. Maybe a Ford dealer out there can verify this. Basically it means the dealer has to pay for the car within 5-7 days of delivery to the dealership.

Its funny how a 2900 lb car with 600 + HP Blue Devil would run circles around the Production Ford GT with 500 HP to the wheels.

And this beast of a car hasnt even been acknowledged by GM.

I think you forgot your punch line. Exactly what's funny about it?

Generally when you're going to make a dig against the other guys you insert some sense of sarcasm or exaggeration.

But yeah, 575hp and 2900lbs is 5.04 lbs/hp. 550hp and 3400lbs is 6.18lbs/hp. That's an 18% difference in hp/weight ratio. That is nothing to sneeze at.

Keep in mind an '04 Cobra's ratio is about 9.74 (as advertised) and A Z06 is 7.65, an '02 SS is 10.4 (as advertised).

Your not helping the F-Bod owner stereotype. If you dont understand what I meant you need to cancel your membership to this forum because your just an IDOIT.

Let me break it down for you. Its funny how a car that hasnt been produced, doesnt have a concept and that hasnt been acknowledged by GM to exist will run circle around a car already in production. Youre all going on rumors, he said she said. But none of you know what it will be or if it will ever be a reality. Much less know specifications. But since your cumaro doesnt exist anymore I see why you subject yourself to this fantasy life. While your there give some info on the 2007 Cumaro im very interested. (SARCASM IS BEING USED VERY HEAVILY JUST INCASE YOU DONT NOTICE AGAIN)

PT...I've never given much thought at all to "exotic" cars, mainly cuz they are so far out of my reach. Though I pretty much charcterize exotic cars as unique and foreign ala ferrari, lambo etc...rare cars imported to the US. I pretty much agree with what you said. I personally would NOT consider the Blue Devil to be an exotic car either for much the same reasons you mentioned. It is a limited edition vette, and not a unique car...like the GT. Though I never really considered the GT an "exotic" car, the more I think about it, the more it fits what I feel is "exotic" EXCEPT that it isn't imported. Nonetheless, these 2 cars would be considered competition for each other, even if for no other reason than "Ford vs. Chevy". I guess if it all pans out (i don't buy much stock in what GM has coming out anymore until official info is released), the comparos and muslinging will be fun to read!

There really is not much sense to repeat that most are bench-racing here... But what I am surprised at is how heated up arguments get, arguments that have to do with a car that we know very little about. Among the few things we know about it is that it MAY be produced.

THere are certain things we can believe - high HP, low weight. I would not put any money, personally, on the weight of this car being 2900 lbs. We already have seen the likes of Solstice - which gained 400 lbs by now. And the original Z06 was supposed to be closer to 3000 lbs, but it's resting at 3100.

Time, of course, will tell.

(So I was off by 200, but 3400lbs still means the BD gets a 500lb advantage, which is HUGE in handling and acceleration, 100lbs is roughly equivalent to 10hp, so that's 50hp the BD makes up on weight alone). The required use of the supercharger to get the power levels needed (I think a car like this getting beat on repeatedly around a track is going to have some durability problems at that HP level with a supercharger). And lastly the price.
1. Cobra does NOT have 390 HP. It has 410 - 425. Expect something similar with the GT.

2. Durability problems my ****, pardon my french. The original GT won races and beat on N/A Ferraris.

3. Wait for a prototype, at least, to be released - then we'll talk figures.

But, my "attitude" about the Blue Devil comes from the fact that we do know it will have a better power to weight ratio than the GT and it will be substantially cheaper.
[/quote]

Very well summarized. Anything beyond the above summary is total and pure speculation.

I think from what we know so far the BD will be all the GT can handle at 1/3rd the price, which I think burns the ford guys up.
You probably meant 2/3 the price (100K vs. 150K). Or, you meant it will be 1/3 cheaper than GT.

As for what burns the Ford guys up - I don't think it's the horsepower, the weight, or the price. It is how strongly people here trashed GT with an imaginary car. I say imaginary, and I use the term loosely. It simply means the car is nowhere to be produced yet, and we can only guess some things about it. I do hope that it does get produced.

I agree and think the same about everyone, not just GM. I was disappointed that the GT came in at 3390lbs, but looking at Ferraris and other exotics and even the Viper, 3390lbs isn't that bad at all. Ford has more than made up for the weight with HP and handling. Now that Dodge is starting to get going with the SRT program, I'm hoping to see some real competition out of them with the Viper. I hope GM joins them soon.

I think the 2900-2950lbs. range is very possible. C6 is smaller/lighter than the C5 to begin with, on top out that the Blue Devil will get all Carbon Fiber body and aluminum frame, that should help it drop that other 150lbs.

I agree with this very much. That's why I'm really interested to see how it turns out. As I said before, past examples show that most original estimates from a manufacturer are typically off and what was once a light weight car becomes a medium weight car. I have reservations about a Blue Devil coming in at 2900lbs. Cars like these tend to stay in the 3000 to 3400 lbs area. The current Z06 is doing good to come in at 3100 lbs and really isn't anything to be upset about.
