2013 GT500 Base MSRP = $54,995
Re: 2013 GT500 Base MSRP = $54,995
>>>Quarter mile 11.6 sec @ 125.7 mph <<<
Mid-11sec, ~126mph
The only difference you will see in 1/4 mile times will probably be the GT500 with a little more MPH. Neither one will be able to get down the track very efficiently. I don't see 2013 GT500 being any faster than the 2012.
I mean seriously - what do you do for a car that doesn't have enough traction to get down the track now - another 110 horsepower should help!

Re: 2013 GT500 Base MSRP = $54,995
To whom?
I said that *if* the difference was only a tenth, that'd still be a GT500 win. I think the real difference in ET, all else equal, is going to be more like 3-5 tenths.
I'd tend to call a tenth "close" rather than "an embarrassment" anyway, but maybe the ZL1 *should* be embarrassed to weigh over 4100 lb...

If I beat a 350Z by just a tenth of a second in my 375hp 4200lb Challenger, I'd be embarrassed.
But based on the 11.6@126 reported above, there's no danger of the GT500 being embarrassed. Now it's the Z06's turn.

(Yet still no ring times).

Re: 2013 GT500 Base MSRP = $54,995
Here is why you will never see Ring times. It actually went down in lateral G's from the last model even though it is said to be easier to drive.
Geoff
During our figure-eight testing, the GT500 posted an impressive 24.2 sec @ 0.80 g result, managing an equally impressive 0.98 g (avg) lateral acceleration. Even better: comparing the new Shelby to its predecessor, testing director Kim Reynolds declared it, "simply a much easier car to drive." Part of the improvement is attributable to the Torsen differential -- another piece of the SVT Performance Package - that provides a full-time torque-sensing system to help optimize traction and handling. Still, the old car, while more of a handful, was no slouch, edging its successor with a figure-eight time of 24.0 sec @ 0.82 g and maximum lateral acceleration of 1.01 g (avg).

Its to bad there isn't some sort of "drag pack" wth a more conventionally geared transmission. I'm reading the car does 130 in 3rd
If its was geared similar to my car the 0-60 run might suffer (since you have to shift into 2nd around 40 or 50 mph) but it would probably knock a coupla ticks off the 1/4 mile time.

Re: 2013 GT500 Base MSRP = $54,995
130 in 3rd gear is a lot....but if the car is doing 125+ in the 1/4 mile, you're not far from a 4th gear shift before the traps - which a lower gear (higher numerically) would certainly bring on. Of course, as a drag racer, I would go the more gear route, but make it so that it would run very close to redline in 4th gear, making that extra gear change worthwhile.
I haven't done the math (haven't gotten bored enough yet), but I suspect something around a 4.10 would be required to do that (assuming 4th is a 1:1 ratio, as most are...MT82 excepted).

Keep in mind that everyone else who tested the car is going significantly slower than Motor Trend. All those slower times are actual. Motor Trend used a correction factor

Re: 2013 GT500 Base MSRP = $54,995
God, these heavy-*** new cars are disappointing.
I was enamored with both the 5th gen and the GT500 when each came out. I appreciate the sheer insane amounts of power these cars are making from the factory. But this getting ridiculous.
Mid 11's with a motor that is closing in on 700hp at the flywheel...700 F*%#ing horsepower and you are running mid 11's! Congrats...you built a mkIV Supra
( I kid, I kid)!
Same with the Zl1...just disappointing..high 11's low 12's...give me a break.
Re-engineer these cars...start over...let them weigh no more then 3200-3400lbs...400-450hp would be more then enough...mpg would jump up...build a real 21st century drivers car.
In my opinion we are officially at the point of diminishing returns in the horsepower wars.
